Getting ECU flash for a used car

I just bought a 04 MT GT and was wondering how to check which flash the car is at... if I bring it into the dealer, will they updated to the most recent one if it is not there already or would there have to be a problem with the car first before updating?

bring it in they will flash it for you and it doesnt take long

cool.. didnt know if I had to make a complaint for them to actually do it... I am going to get an oil change so hopefully they will do it then.. thanks

Well the dealership near me said that the owner must express a verfiable complaint before they will flash your car. If they pull that on you, quickly say "And for some reason my engine stalls when I'm in cruise control for long periods of time". If you don't want to lie, then go to a different dealer.

when you get there just let the tech know because most likely he isnt up to date on all the 8 stuff that there is a new flash that came out recently and you would like to have your car updated with the new flash.

he wont argue if he does just keep insisting that you want the new flash because it gives better gas mileage or something it doesnt really matter u dont really need a reason its there for a reason and u are entitled to it

daniel ther ewill be a recall shortly that will include a new flash(the flash is availa ble currently). you could just wait to you see on here that the recall is active and then get it done

zoom.. thanks for the update.. that actually would probably be easier to do the flash with the recall... what is the recall regarding?

Yeah, it sounds like the recall is for flash exclusively? Can they charge for the flash if it is not part of a recall, or should they do it for free? I need to do it to see if I can get decent MPG.
