That poor thing.

Although I can appreciate the hard work that probably went into the swap... that engine just looks bad in an RX8's engine bay. Something looks really wrong. It's not the fact it's a piston engine either. LS small blocks just look so much cleaner.

^+1. I know it's not a bad engine, but it seems like there has to be a much better option for a similar price range.

ManyRX 08-04-2010 05:13 AM

Id rather set my 8 on fire!!!!

Krazed_Rx8 08-04-2010 05:27 AM

The engine id be interested in is the VQ from the 370z ;)

I have an old Porsche(1958) thats rear engine driver. The trans axle isn't as easy to dis/ass on and off the car. Pulling the axles can also be a headache but I love the way it drives. It's 4 on the floor. Rear engine cars are great fun to drive, and if you never have you need to drive one once before you die.

VashGS 08-04-2010 07:40 AM

Damn put some exhaust on that thing. The front wheel drive style intake looks like crap.

With my skill level I think the first time will be the last time.:mdrmed:

Everyone has their own preference, judging from the website I figure the genesis engine is easily available for him.

VashGS 08-05-2010 06:16 AM

Probably he got it salvage. It's a cool build I bet that engine will do 200,000+ miles ez. Just all v6 sound a bit boring. No matter that you do to them.

Can't really say that... unless you've heard every single V6.

yiksing- You nailed it in the head!
you guys have to put it in perspective. That car is in Korea. It would be very difficult and costly to get USDM parts over there. From what I know, Mazda's doesn't officially sell cas there either. For them, a genesis motor would be what is equivalent to our LS1 over here- probably much easier for them to get parts as well...

I would like to see the 4.6L V8 from the Genesis Sedan... That will be so much sexier. . :yumyum:

+1 to what you said about Korea and the imports and exports of parts.

The BIG down fall is that P.O.S transmission on the Genesis. other then that, clean and simple.

Yea I can.. lol... OMG:bootyshak V6 sound like poop... Man talk about put put. Even tuned Z cars..., 2010 camaro etc. Fail. But then again most of the time they are in my rear view mirror not out front.:hahano:

lzhmax 08-13-2010 09:37 PM

thats sound weird from a RX8 haha...

ZumnRx8 08-13-2010 09:46 PM

Off the top of my head, in my opinion, the C30A/32B in the NSX is a worthy sounding V6 :D:.

DocBeech 08-14-2010 01:32 AM

Saying there aren't any good V6 racing engines and that they sound like crap is just like saying a 600cc bike engine is garbage compared to a 1000cc engine. Each has its own point and purpose. My dad had a friend he used to work with that raced an Inline 6 at the track here all the time and would stomp V8s left and right, and it sounded like an enraged beast when he started it up.

I drove a 3.8 track and I actually think it is a great car...except for the tranny. It is crap and was an instant deal breaker in considering the Genesis Coupe any further. Shifting is really heavy and clunky. That transmission does not belong in a performance car. Theres nothing remotely sporty about it.

Triangle Man 08-14-2010 05:02 PM

I agree one thousand percent, 77mjd - that transmission is probably the worst part of the car.

My experience with driving it went something like:

I put it in first.

CRUNCH.

Mortified, I looked at the salesman. My foot had been on the clutch the whole time – did I break something?

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

“Did I break it?”

“Uh…no. Why?”

Turns out that was the sound the gearbox makes. I put it in second – crunch! – and third – crunch – all with the clutch to the floor. It was ghastly. The stick felt loose and wobbly, like a butcher’s knife in a bucket of loose Erector set parts.
Of course, the horrible clutch and acres of chintzy plastic also soured it for me, as did that silly chipmunk face on the front.

That said, the engine pulled well when you got the gear finally slotted in. Didn't make a great noise, but it had a fair bit of power. Might be the Korean LS1.

Gonna have to beg to differ on this one. I'd never be able to say that the v6's in the 350 and 370z "sound a bit boring"...even with stock exhaust.
