Gas pedal & carpet...
 

I recently noticed that the gas pedal's arm/lever rubs against the carpet (area in front of the "side patch" to prevent carpet wear from your foot) when it is depressed more than ~30%. Upon further inspection, it looks like the carpet in that area does not have anything holding it to the tranny/engine tunnel and is sticking out.

I've had my gas pedal replaced because of creaking noises. I don't remember the broken pedal rubbing the carpet.

I know it's a minor problem, but it sure is irritating... Any ideas?

hmm i don't really know what you are talking about but I will throw in my $0.02 about the carpet in that area... i drive the 6MT version and the contact area where my heel touches the carpet is pretty much worn thru the carpet and shows the white looking 'stuff" under the mat.

I need the all weather mats badly.

Sorry, that was probably confusing. Attached are pics (cell phone quality). The area that is being rubbed is the carpet IN FRONT of the "side patch" on the tunnel (the vinyl patch that has diagonal stripes). It's the LEVER of the gas pedal that is rubbing the carpet.

toxin: I put in those ugly clear vinyl floor mats that you can cut to size. My carpet is wear free b/c of it.

It sounds like they didn't out it back togeather correctly. They're missing a washer or an adjustment.

Pedal should not touch the carpet.

I would take that into a dealer and demand it be fixed, thats just not right. are you getting any sticking or is it "harder" to push the accelerator b/c of the rubbing after you hit 30% down?

Just being random but if its harder to hit the accelerator that "theoretically" could be a safety issue -- just imagine needing to floor it to avoid being rear ended or "something" and the accelerator sticks to the side of the footwell and rubs.

No carpet wear when you do that, but i dont think i could handle the cheap look it gives.

Yea, I gotta visit the dealer soon, so I guess I'll have them take a look at the pedal.

Hightshoe: I bought the higher quality type--looks much better than the cheap ones, and it doesn't move around. Plus, I spent a long time cutting them to make the fit perfect.

You know what I did I just replaced the oem carpet matts with Target ones. Works for me and they come in black too :)

It may be a simple fix. There *might* be a 'clip' that was disconnected to install the gas pedal. See if you can pull the rug back a bit and look for a hole/clip, or just push the rug down and get it to clip back into place.

I put in the OEM footwell lamps over the weekend, and the instructions described a clip that I was supposed to pull the rug up and disconnect to run the wires under the rug. The diagram showed one that looked like it was just south of the accelerator. There was no clip there in my 05, so I don't know if it is on some model years & not others, or it was just a case of a jackass drawing up instructions, but it's worth a look.

Got an '04, but I couldn't see any evidence of a clip holding that area of the carpet in place.

I have an '05 and I put in the footwell lights, too. There is a clip—it's UP near the TOP of the center hump, as I remember. Look up there, and feel around with your fingers, and you'll find it.

^lol. Probably why I couldn't find it. I was able to tuck the LED wire under w/o pulling the rug up on the center hump. Happy hunting FS!
