Gas millage

I am getting 13 miles a gallon( in the city) on my RX8. ( 190/14.5) On the sticker says that I suppost to get 18 in the city. I checked other threats and it looks like most of you get about 15 ( avarage ) a gallon. Should I be worried about my gas millage? I will add that I did not drove very fast.

Is there is a possibility that it burns more gas becasue of my MAGNAFLOW Performance exhaust system???

Should I be worried about that and maybe make an appointment with the dealer?

Thank you in advance for all of your responses.

yes call the dealer immediately and have them add the fuel consumption negating TSB immediately!!...this is nonsense....i cant believe you get such horrid mileage in a sportscar!!!

Przemot 03-30-2007 08:41 PM

I know that I am repating the topic hehe but I am suprise that they burn so much gas for such a small car:) I am planning to take this car to Europe ( Poland) where gas will cost me around 5$ a gallon . heheh upssss:) This is why I am little bit concern:) I gues should not thing about that to much:)

Keep the RPM down, and try a pre-mix, that might help.

Raptor75 03-30-2007 09:10 PM

You won't get much help here because this is such a beat down topic. Like me it sounds like you have a RX that gets bad mileage even by RX standards. I have a similar type that only gets 12 mpg. The dealer will probably be of no help, he will plug your car into their shop computer and pronounce everything is normal and tell you that it is the way you drive the car or some other crap. Mazda has absolutely no interest at all in solving poor mileage problems. I have two calls in to the regional rep who has yet to return my calls.

Unfortunately you are about to find out why Mazda is rated so poorly in regards to customer service and retention. They really don't care.

Rapter

Thx a lot:) It looks like I would have to get used to to the problem:) :/ eeh

I might step by into the mazda dealer and see what they will say anyway.

Did I say that I am trying get the millage that is on the sticker.? I wish that I can get the millage that is little similar to the avarage that is posted on the forum.(15mpg in the city) According to me 12 miles a galon is one of the lowest.

so if you basically know that 12 mpg is what we get in average then whats the point on Dumb questions about should i take it to the Dealer. that search thingy on top right of the page is for something use it.

User24 03-30-2007 10:44 PM

That is normal there is nothing wrong with your vehicle.

14.5 mpg/tank is keeping the gearbox 1 or 2 higher than normal.
13.5 mpg/tank is normal driving.
12 mpg/tank is higher rpm driving.

There's not a lot of difference between these, just 2.5 mpg difference between a 6000 rpm driving style and 2000 rpm engine lugging style. So you are free to take your pick.

I've been milling around the gas station lately.

I would still fight them about it, maybe you'll get a good dealer who will go beyond Mazda's usually indifference.

What is your driving like, for example my normal drive is outer city (Chicago) where I'll do no stop and go but will hit a lot of stop likes. Maybe a stop light every 4 blocks allowing me to get to 40mph for about 8 miles each way.

That's similar to my city driving numbers, which corresponds to actual city driving and not suburban stop-and-go. If I do the city crawl and do lots of idling at stop lights, I'll get those types of numbers. However, I only had the patience to do the granny-shifting for one tank of gas to get roughly 14 mpg. All-city driving tends to be lower for me since I tend to keep the rpm's up.

If I add some highway driving (6th gear, cruise control, etc...), my numbers quickly climb. However, I have never been able to get 24 mpg yet. Only low 20's. Perhaps if I do a long, 100% interstate drive I'll be able to get 24 mpg.

Cheers

TheKDog 03-31-2007 11:12 AM

If you get more than 17 mpg...then you are getting carbon buildup from not revving your engine enough and it's gonna blow up.
