New RX-8 owner, It's awesome!

So two days ago i walk into a honda dealership to get my Civic's oil changed. I always check out the lot while waiting. The only car i have ever really wanted just by its unique qualities was the rx-8; and they so happened to have a blue one. Now i love black, but It's an 04 GT with 9,000 miles on it, The guy tells me 19k and seemingly for some odd reason i never picked up my civic from the service dept. I just rode home in the rx-8 instead. I've really enjoyed it in this short amount of time.

I've researched your boards alot and have already learned a ton of useful information! It's the first rotary engine for me so ahead of time thanks alot for all of the info. I'm looking foward to having this car for a long time, and perhaps getting aquainted with some of you guys here! If anyone has any more heads up about the different quirks of this engine i'd be obliged to get the info. Especially if anyone can give me an idea about how much warranty 04's came with. Thanks for sharing your community!

~Cheers

Congrats and enjoy! I'd take it to a Mazda dealer—they can look up the VIN in their computer and see which ECU flashes, updates, and recalls have been done.

good job i just brought my rx8 3 days ago :P However it seems to be pretty rushed...i mean i researched the rx8 forum and checked out all rx8 around me for past 3 months before i actually brought one. The dealership told me the powertrain warrenty was extended to 6 years.

Congrats on the purchase! I've had my 2004 RX8 for about a year now, and I still enjoy driving it as much as I did when I first bought it.

As for the warranty, I believe the bumper to bumper warranty is 3 years / 36,000 miles. Check the build date on your 8 (it should be located on the inner driver door jamb), and add 3 years from that date. That's when your bumper to bumper should expire.

As for the powertrain (engine / transmission), I believe the warranty is either 5 years or 6 years, and I'm positive that it's up to 60,000 miles.

Welcome to the club!

Thanks to everyone who replied. Got the mazda place to look up the upgrades and such and he says it's good to go. Although he seemed baffled by the lower mileage and stated, "These cars aren't meant to sit." and then went on on how it was really unhealthy for a rotary. I have no intentions of letting it sit It's a manual btw. Thanks again to everyone for the info! It's been extremely helpful.

I've owned more then a few civics in my life and cannot really remember 'driving' them. I think about driving my 8 all the time.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the forums!
