Fuel Filler Door Won't Open
Hey all. I have to lift and insert something underneath the fuel filler door release and then manually pull the actually door open.
The car is still w/in the 4 year/50k mile B2B warranty, and I do need to get the center console fixed as it has come off its track slightly, but I'd rather not deal with the dealership in this upcoming busy week if I can avoid it. Is this likely a fuse? Thanks, Hombres. |
I had this problem on mine also.
Theres a metal piece that pushes the door open that must have been bent back a little. You can just bend it back into place so it can open the door. Id be able to explain this in much more detail if i could go look at my 8 right now |
I think the filler door has a cable going directly to it. I mean you obviously know how to fix it now. But it wouldn't be a fuse, there's no electricity going to a motor or anything. (Can you say explosion)
|
I tried bending that metal clip on the inside of the door both forward and backward, in varying degrees.
No go. |
Rip the door off. You don't need it. Ride in style like a baller.

But what would happen when he runs out of gas? Well whatever, you're right that is baller status. Worry about that later.
|
if the clip doesn't work make sure the cable didn't break going to the door or come off or something....other than that it's prob time to go to the stealership!
|
have someone pull on the lever while you check to see if the pin is moving. if it is then it's just the clip.
|
Cable can stretch. There should be an adjustment for it.
|
Thanks everyone.
I will look into all the possibilities you've raised. |
The lever that you pull to release the door sticks on my 8, so after pulling the lever, I have to push the lever back down all the way to get it to latch the door correctly and to pop it back out the next time. So, like others have said, it may be a problem with the cable somewhere.

Hi gents, I've searched high and low on the web, and am having a very hard time finding the fuel door "spring" (the metal piece that pushes the fuel door open when latch is pulled) as mine had rusted and broke off... now my fuel door will not open as no spring is pushing it forward...
is there anyone who can point me in the right direction so that I may find and purchase a replacement? (I don't post very much as I usually observe and search on my own, but as I couldn't find it... I decided to ask. and if I didn't search hard enough and missed it, please do forgive me.) |
I am also looking to purchase said spring
