Frusterations Abroad
 

I'm getting rather tiresome of all of the little nick-nack problems that have been showing up.

As most know, I had defective paint on my door. Took the car in, they repainted a good part of the door, and then gave it back to me (took 6 days away...hmm). Well I get it back, and first thing I notice is that they reattached the front license plate bracket, which I'd originally taken off when I got it. No biggie.

So tonight I go out to take it off, and the dumb a$$ tech that screwed it on put one of the correct size screws in one side, and apparently screwed a WRONG size screw into the other side sooo tight that is snapped the bushing bracket off that holds the receiving screw into the grill. Nice. So I go to unscrew it, and low and behold, the screw moves freely...BUT doesn't move out or in. It's freely floating around, loosely retaining the bracket...and deaming it UNMOVEABLE. I might also mention that you CAN'T get yur hands behind the grill to immobilize the broken peice...

By now i'm starting to get mad, because it must be the same moron that originally attached the wrong screw on the rear plate, which wasn't damaged enough to screw the correct screw in.

Now I getta go to the dealership in the morning, and have them (likely) order me a new front grill, because of some tool that apparently has the thought processs of a sub-preschool child. If the screw doesn't fit....it's not the right one. You wouldn't try and cram a square into a circular opening, would you? I could immediatly imagine the picture of him tightening it until something snaps...then thinks...oh crap...i'll just screw on the others and no one will notice. Apparently he didn't imagine that some don't WANT the cover on there...which now cannot be taken off. Someone's gettin a reaming tomorrow.

Does this kinda stuff ever seem frustering to anyone else? It's just so small, but so stupid. Now, when they order a new grill, they will have to take the front bumper off, which adds the likelyhood that they'll mess something up when putting that back on. I'm pretty red right now...

find another dealer lol sorry to hear about the problems but at least its the small things its also those small things that make you love this car so you gotta take the good with the bad and just make the best of everything

Yea, I know it's rather miniscule things that seem to be going wrong...and I am thankful it's nothing excessive or mechanical. I guess it's just that for my first "brand new car" experience, I had this picture of everything just being perfect and working perfectly. I know, dream world analogy.

Guess that venting with some of my fellow RX-8'ers is one of the places I feel like all of this would be understood. Thanx all :)

I took it to the dealership, and of course the tech was scratchin his head for about an HOUR on how to attack this stupid mistake.

Ended up that he got the screw out somehow, then removed the golden-colored aluminum screw sleeve and borred (sp?) the hole out just slightly bigger. Apparently this seems to be their answer to how it should be fixed to them. I asked what I was supposed to do if i wanted to reattach it, and he gave me this huge long speech about how cops don't really look for them anyway, and how the remaining 3 screw holes would hold it... and blah blah blah. They of course gave me the option that if I wanted it back on and wanted a bolt there that badly, bring it back then and they would find a way to get a bolt secured. To me that was besides the point...I didn't wanna have to come back to the dealership to have a FRONT BRACKET attached and detached. I mean, come on.

However, because I was tired of having my car away (6 days for repainting) and all the time i'd been at the dealer since i bought the car, (and because i'm a friggin rollover) I just grabbed the keys and left it be. I'm still undecided if I should have demanded a whole new grill for that one metal attachment that they had to drill out...but with all the other things they could mess up replacing that, I think i'll live with this decision.

What would any of you have done? Made them replace the whole grill, or just accept the one hole borred out and take the car home that day?
