Front Air Dam vs no Air Dam
 

There in an option in accessories for front airt dam. I'm looking at the pictures of all rx-8s on the net vs. the one in the accessories catalog and I can't see a difference.

Can someone post a pic with and without?

the air dam comes w/ the Appearance Package, which basically adds the front air dam, rear side skirts, and a lower rear bumper. the car has a slightly wrapped look with the appearance package- looks sportier but ricier.

I think the air dam gives the front a more complete look. IMO it should have been stock on all 8's.

and, it's more of a "splitter" than a dam - a splitter is designed to split the airflow between undercar air and cooling air - that's exactly what this does. Decoratively of course ...

Personal choice stuff but I disagree. I think it looks a bit tacked on (as do the side skirts).

If they were going to make something stock, I would prefer the MazdaSpeed front dam.

You need to be careful to distinguish between the Mazda "appearance pack" chin spoiler and the MS front air dam (i.e. the black car on the left in the second image has the latter).

(I realise you were only comparing the yellow cars but I just wanted to clarify that for the first poster).

Well I guess if I had to choose between the two I'd choose the MS also. :)

Thanks a lot guys. I was looking at the opening itself and I just couldn't figure out what is different with the air dam. They should've called it front air dam skirt or similar.

I'm currently looking at the rx-8 and trying to do the pricing. Stew, I had the vehicle optioned same as yours, but now, I am thinking of cutting some things out(side deflectors, rear deflector, front air dam) - just to save some money.

I'm in Canada, so the options are a bit different. We don't have options, other than nav and sunroof which are factory installed, all the accessories are dealer installed. In here, the dealer is charging 20% for installation. I though that was supposed to be included when you buy a brand new car.

I am thinking either the Shinka or SE as it is called here in Canada or the GT. Both, 6 speed manual. How are those Alcantara inserts? Looks like it would be more difficult to clean as you just can't wipe it off.

Not much in terms of discounts; around 2,500 off. I have an option of either going with it, or waiting it out towards the end of the year. Then, I've heard you can get pretty good discounts 6k or more and here in Canada they had a promotion for 2,500 in MS accessories for 2005 model vehicles.

I'm thinking to lease the vehicle for 24mths. Not sure if you can get those 6k discounts with lease or whether it's strickly cash deal.

It's usually cheaper to buy accessories anywhere but through your dealer. Then get someone else to fit them (if they're not DIY).
