"Free" Reman Engine costs

Hey all, I am scheduled to bring my car in on Monday to get the reman engine put in. I've done some reading about it here and apparently there will be some costs associated with the replacement that are not part of the engine itself, and therefore will come out from my own pocket? Is this true?

If so, how much are we looking at here? I just want to be fully prepared before I face the "stealership" :evil_laug

From what I've heard, coils, plugs, fluids, and possibly cat (if they find something wrong with the old one).

Depends on the dealership because some will cover parts and discount labor for installing parts that others will not.

When I got mine done. all I had to pay for was a new battery which is around 100 bucks

Sweet!! Good to hear!! I just got my plugs/wires/coils and battery changed about 2 months ago... sooo, :fingersx:

You will want new plugs though, why put used plugs into a new engine? Even if they are only two months old you should keep your coils and wires, and get a new set of plugs. Also while your at it you could have them check to make sure the starter was replaced, and the part numbers match up. Some people had the starters replaced but they didn't put the new model on, just another one of the old models on.

There are little things you can have done since the labor is paid for. Things could also be easier to get done while the engine is out. Like checking the oil cooler lines. Getting a good cleaning done on the throttle body, valves, and idle port. Checking the MAF and replacing it if needed. Putting on new motor mounts. Don't let them throw the old ones back on if they aren't perfect. (i dont know how many miles you went before your engine blew) From what I understand your only getting a core and nothing else.

You also need to make sure they replace the fuel line. Some people had their cars catch on fire after they put the old fuel line back on. So make sure if you check nothing else the fuel line gets replaced even if its out of pocket!

The installation of my last engine was delayed because the connectors to my oil lines were found to be corroded and had a small leak. I was never aware of this. I never saw any spots on the driveway They wanted to charge me over 1500 to replace the lines with new oem lines. I got used ones for 150 and had them put on the car.
The dealership is going to look to "protect" Mazda's warranty. Anything that is found to be wrong external to the engine could be a reason to hold up the installation of the replacement.
BTW: That was the last straw for me. Because of this and a couple of other questionable shenanigans, I changed dealers that I deal with.

It is hit and miss but if you have a good relationship with your dealership, most of them will do what they can to help you out.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I dropped the car off earlier this morning and the service rep I talked to seem to be willing to help me out. So, now comes the wait I guess..

Will update as things progress..

Holy shii finally got the 8 back! Can definitely feel a difference in the way the car pulls -- though I'm in the break-in period so didn't really push her. Ended up paying $0 to the dealer, which is nice, I guess.. even though I mentioned specifically to change the fuel line.. The service rep said nothing needed to be changed. Oh well, will definitely post here if I ended up exploding :yelrotflm
