This was part of the 250HP "settlement". Mazda overstated horsepower on the early RX-8s. Owners were given the option of returning their vehicles or receiving free scheduled maintenance.

Personally, I liked how Ford dealt with a similar problem with Mustang Cobras a few years back. They did a recall and fitted the cars with new equipment (intake manifold and exhaust? - fuzzy part of the memory) to make the car meet the numbers.

Dose that free maintenance cover labor only, or dose it cover filters and spark plugs...etc??

All scheduled.....

Whatever it says in the manual for the warranty period - oil and filters, air filter, inspections, adjustments.

You had to have purchased your RX-8 on or prior to August 26, 2003 to qualify. Mazda sent letters last year to people who qualified. We got a $500 gift card + free scheduled maintenance for 4 years :D .

Back then it was almost impossible to buy the car for less than MSRP, so overall you probably still got a better deal on your car if you paid $1000 - $1500 below MSRP.
