During the flooding here in Memphis TN, i was driving on I240 and hydroplaned, did a 180 and was hit (facing oncoming trafic) by a chevy work van. Im going to take it to a shop, i was just wondering if you guys think that its fixable? Should i part it out or fix?

Anything is fixable, I just think that a car that has had any frame damage repaired will never be the same again. It might depend on how mild or how extreme the damage is though.

mscamp02 05-10-2011 06:46 AM

^I wouldnt say never be the same again, it all goes in to just how much your willing to spend to fix it. Best thing is to go get quotes and see where your at and then determine if its worth it or not

Pdub8 05-10-2011 08:32 AM

^ Get quotes and go from there. You may find its not worth it to you to get it fixed and start over with another 8 or give you an excuse to get another car you were wanting. Whatever you decide to do start with that its impossible to tell how much a wreck is gonna cost you by pictures.

RX8Soldier 05-10-2011 08:58 AM

agree with the others.
Get it checked out. You may find that there is more damage to the body that you thought...

Zendos 05-10-2011 10:33 AM

yeah, thanks. i really dont wanna be driving with a ugly looking 8.

Rotary-RX8 05-10-2011 10:38 AM

Like others said. Get quotes and if its too much just buy another 8 or another car. Glad youre okay though.

Ericok 05-10-2011 11:30 AM

The RX8 doesn't have a frame. It's unibody construction. From the list, the damage isn't that serious.

Feras 05-10-2011 11:50 AM

guys you think this frame is fixable?

Oh...that ill buff out, no prob LOL

Feras 05-10-2011 12:21 PM

LOL but in seriousness for yours i think its a matter of what the estimates are and if you're willing, looks like some stuff was bent, whether it was important or not i dunno.

I guess it just depends on the severity of the damage to the car. They have a list so they must have got it checked out somewhere already I guess. Whats shown in the pictures might not be bad enough to make it never the same again, but it would always bother me.

DocBeech 05-10-2011 04:55 PM

You can get it fixed sure. But do note that with that much damage your car will never ride perfect again. Even after you fix her up you will chase suspension bugs. Things are not in the same place, even the millimeters they are off now is a big deal. Once you start adding up where the metal is micro fractured, bent, and no longer perfectly straight you start to be inches off the original calibration. You will chase suspension bugs for the rest of the cars life, and it will never feel the same again. I would personally part with her as a driver and pick up a new one, rather than spend months trying to exact my tuning back in to place.

Why are you running Mazda 3 wheels in the front?

The vultures show up fast these days!

*piece. I before E except after C (and some randomly stupid occurrences).

It'll probably drive fine after an alignment based on my experience.

I got into a very similar accident and the car didn't drive straight afterwards. Just took it to an alignment shop and they straightened it right out. That was about 5 months ago and no problems yet. Cosmetic costs though... :banghead:

or perhaps less damage. If the tire/wheel absorbed a good portion of the hit - at it seems in the pic - it might not be as bad after all frame wise.
