Ford F250 Super Duty vs RX8

I live in an apartment complex. It is fairly large and we have our own silly little roads. There are no lane divisions so people are always driving how ever they please. The roads are normally big enough for two cars to pass by with no problems.
And since it is a large apartment complex owned by a larger property management company, they have a bunch of maintenance people that drive around and do things like install air filters, fix problems and play with them selves while driving. That is where the Ford F250 Super Duty comes in.

I was leaving my apartment, about 1200 feet from my door. Coming from the opposite direction was the truck. The jackass was day dreaming and looking way off to the side. He didn't have a turn signal on so I thought he was going straight. So then he turns left right into my rear tire. Thanks jackass. Had didn't see me simply because he wasn't looking. Had he been paying attention he would have seen me. Had he been attentive to what he was doing, he would have executed a proper left hand turn and stayed in his lane, but instead he made the turn so that he would end up in the wrong lane on the new road.

So the point of impact was basically by rear drivers’ side tire. The truck was traveling maybe 15-20 MPH. I was traveling about the same. No airbags deployed. As the impact continued it took the bumper right off. The passenger side had one bolt holding it on.

I immediately got out of my car approaching him. The first thing he said is "Ohh my god I didn't even see you, you were going too fast." Complete BS because if he didn't see me he didn't know how fast I was going. As I explained that and as he saw where he hit me, he realized and admitted it was his fault.

I called the police, my insurance and his insurance. The police will have a report for me tomorrow. No citations only an accident report. My insurance (progressive) was very responsive where his didn’t really care. They took the info and said someone will call me when they call me. No estimations on time or anything like that.

I drove the car back to my parking spot and there was defiantly significant damage done to the wheel. It basically felt extremely unbalanced. Like the wheel would basically wiggle right off.

Here are some pictures of the truck. Basically cosmetic damage.

Our maintenance guys here drive golf carts. No, seriously they do. I'm sure I'd fair better if it came down to a game of chicken.

Wow thank god it was just a fender bender and not $25K in damages ;)
F250 > RX-8

Going too fast? Perhaps if you had been going faster, the ass clown would have missed you entirely. If you had been going slower he'd have hit you in the door.

Yeah that is exactly what I said. The jack ass just wasn't looking, and was turning way too early.

This is certainly not just a fender bender. Driving it 5mph back to my parking spot the wheel felt like it was going to wobble right off. There is significant damange to the tire, wheel or axle. I don't know what exactly yet. That truck weights well more then twice the rx8. It hit it with some force. It is not drivable.

I have got my insurance company sending for a tow truck to take it to the dealer. Thankfully, the local Mazda dealer is a recommended shop.

That is lucky. I insisted on using my local Mazda dealer for my extensive damage, but they were not a recommended shop. Then, when the Mazda dealer botched the airbag replacement my insurance company just said, "so what?" The insurance company had paid the dealer and I the settlement amount and considered the claim closed - they didn't care if the repairs were done right or done at all. Of course, my RX-8 was only 5 weeks old with less than 3,000 miles on it so *I* cared. Definintely better to use a preferred shop and get your insurance company to provide leverage in favor of quality work.

I know the feeling, when my car hit 700 miles some dumb ass kid ran into the back of it and tore off the bumper. I was really bummed out, my car looked just like yours.

Now the good part, I had no sheet metal damage and all the bumper stuff is replaceable so the car was reassembled like new. Also the rear muffler was damage and needed to be replaced. I asked the repair shop if it was OK to switch mufflers and he said fine as long as I covered any cost over the stock system. $100 later I had MS dual system installed. The car was as good as new with a nicer sounding muffler.

Hope it works out for you.

Thats why I am not a fan of these big fucking trucks... being from texas, they are *EVERYWHERE* even soccer moms driving their kids around feel the need to take the "dualie" that gets 7mph and weighs 3tons.

Trucks do have their uses and need, but I can never see myself owning one.

Sorry to hear about your 8 man, that looks pretty bad, but hopefully it will all get fixed. Look into getting the MS Rear underspoiler and see if insurance can pick up the tab (or most of it)

Clavius 06-01-2006 02:58 PM

Well it could of been worse.. he could of been a illegal with no insurance and spoke no english at all!.. He most likely saw some cutie walking around and stared a bit to long like a moron and WHAM your car is a victim. I pesonaly give you prop's for not beating the guy up for being that damn stupid.

late8 06-01-2006 03:48 PM

Oh man . . . sorry about what happened! I just got my 8 out of the body shop and the wait just killed me. I'm glad you're okay.

Cool-Blue-Dad 06-01-2006 03:57 PM

One suggestion - arrange a rental loaner through the other guys insurance. Make them provide for direct billing up-front if you can. You don't want the extra hassle of seeking reimbursement later. If they resist the rental loaner bring up reimbursement for lost wages because you can't get to your job without your car.
