A fond farewell
Hello Fellow RX-8 Owners,
Today I traded in my RX-8 which I owned for last 4 years. I baught it new in 2005 as a left over on the lot and have driven it every since. I live in New England and drove it through numerous snow storms especially the one last december which had me stuck in traffic for 5 hours. The car served me well and even though it had its share of problems, all of which covered by warranty, she was true to me and I enjoyed her very much. So after 87,700 miles I had to trade her in. So now I step into a 2006 Mercedes-Benz which is a fantastic car. Doesn't handle like the RX-8 obvisouly but is a lot more practical and also has a lot more amenities which I am really enjoying. If it is alright with anyone that reads this thread I would like to stop by once in a while and visit with some of my old RX-8 buddies which I met during some meets. Farewell RX-8. May you make your next owner enjoy you as I did. Hagar852 |

very nice car!!! sorry to see you trade your 8 in but you do what you have to do. the benz will no doubt be a very practical car and with the mercedes comes a hefty amount of reliability.
|
nice..i always wanted the e55..maybe i still might get one.. =(
|
Damn, nice ride! Nice to see you stopping by, and good to know you loved the 8.
Don't forget to stop by when you have some free time and update us on the fun you're having! |
yesh that's damn nice there! nothing but luxury in Mercedes
|
Nice ride , also grats
|
Hey thanks everyone.
Yeah so far I am enjoying the new ride. I owe this forum a lot of thanks with all the help I received and parts I baught on the parts for sale forum. I saved a lot of time and money using this forum for information and I have enjoyed the RX-8 community for its hospitality and car enthusiasts. |
Bye....

I know you don't care, and I believe you shouldn't care, because different strokes for different folks, but I think true Mercedes stopped being made in the late 80s and early 90s.
I also think the interior on that Benz is just a sin for such an 'esteemed' car. I have a friend with a 2005 S500 and it is unbelievable how cheaply made some of the interior components are in his car. A great example is something as simple but noticeable as the door locks. They are incredibly cheap, plastic hollow part. More than any other prestige make, I am most unimpressed with Mercedes. My s/o has a two year old VW Passat, and it wasn't cheap for what it is (a 4 banger), and I am dumbfounded as how VW can brag about 'German Engineering.' The car is a total POS. For all the bitching, I am very impressed with the interior build quality of my 8 - amazed actually. I know some people beg to differ, but the fit and finish and solidity of the components used is quite impressive by my touch and sight. Sorry for the opinionated rant. As long as you like your new car is the only thing that should and does matter. |
it sounds like were just bashing this guys new car...lol i didnt intend to do that..sorry
|
To each his own. Sorry to see you go. I personally HATE mercedes unless its McLaren AMG whatever which is at least fast. But yeah to me benz has always been the old tired father while BMW is the sporty younger one.
But like I said to each his own. I really hope you enjoy it and dont miss the 8 that much, although I know you will. |
At those miles, I can't blame you at all...i'd likely have done the same.
Nice choice of a successor. |
yeah we appologize for the ppl that feel they need to bash a benz
|
hope you enjoy the new ride.
|
Thanks..
So far I am enjoying very much. Like I said before it doesn't handle like the 8 did but the 8 doesn't ride like this does. Oh well. They can bash all they want, I am the one who baught the car not them, and I wouldn't have baught it if I didn't like it. Anyway thanks guys for kudos on the new car. I will be popping in and out from time to time to help some of the new owners since I had my car for so long, I learned alot about it and mostly from here. Thanks again, Hagar852 |
ill be holding onto the 8 until either
a. it dies b. i have saved enough for a Mugello Blue R8 http://www.autometrix.co.uk/html/adi...e_RS4_3065.jpg |

my money goes on it dying first lol |

just a joke, bud.
the odds that an average 8 owner would be able to buy an R8 would have to be through the roof. Otherwise you wouldn't be driving an 8. sorry if i struck a nerve  |
didnt strike a nerve. I got an rx8 because of where I was when I first started this job right after college. salary wasn't there to afford anything else. but I am advancing in my career, 2 promotions and have more than doubled my salary with where I am NOW, and am not planning on staying here. I guess I lied when I said the last post was my last threadjack. I guess this one is going to have to be :p:

I am an IT guy myself. Computer Systems Administrator.
|
So am I hehe, guess great minds think alike
|
OP- good post, nice mileage on your 8, good luck with your new baby.
|
Enjoy, Dude.
I would think that a Sysadmin would rather have something sportier, but at least the Racquet Club will let you in now... Bye! |
Sick Benz :)
Enjoy it! |

http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...06mercedes.jpg http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...58583.2-lg.jpg Ouch! E-classes are real good deals. New model is coming out soon. You should've gotten a C32 AMG. And you think the rx-8 depreciates bad.... I like the new W204 C-class. Looks muscular and drives much better than the W203. Good value too. |

Nice choice! My father bought the same exact car about a month ago. It's a really beautiful car. Enjoy it!

No hatin' on your choice of a new ride, OP.
Different strokes makes the world go round. Stay safe. |
:tear: :crying:
Damn!! I missed this thread entirely. Sorry to see you dumping the 8, Jim. This really sucks. I can't say I blame you though. Your post here is awfully forgiving for some of the shit you had to deal with with your 8. Kudos for that. The benz looks nice. I'll bet you have the cushy seat warmers . . . must be nice this week! Good luck with it. :beerchug: |
