Would anyone in here turn down an RX-8 from their parents at age 16? Uhhhhhhhhhh naaaa! Good for you kid. Just make sure you take your time and learn to drive the thing before red lining all over town. The only thing that irritates me about a 16 year old getting an 8 is that it probably increases the chances of him and others getting killed in an accident. BUT...if you handle yourself and can act as mature as your car is then you'll be fine. Welcome to the club and stop worrying if it's a " bitch thing ". If you want to learn about a " bitch thing " do a search for " GAS MILEAGE ". You'll find the true definition of a " bitch thing " right there!!!

Yea the kid is spoiled but that is the parents fault not his. No 16 year old would turn it down! The parents are idiots though. No matter what anyone says most 16 year olds are not that responsible and the peer pressure makes them do dumb stuff in cars. That is why so many of them die and why the insurance rates are so high for them. No argument to it, just plain statistics. Parents might as well say happy birthday, what color casket do you want? Yellow with black stripes??

i think he should enjoy the **** out of this car and i wouldn't bother coming back to this forum if i were him. i don't think ppl on this site are in the position to critisize the parents on their choices. some of you seem to blame being spoiled (or fortunate to have parents with money) to irresponsibility or to being ill-prepared for the rest of your life. the kid's parents are not the cause of high insurance rates.

i understand that we hold our blue-collar roots on a pedestal, but any time you see someone getting something that your parents couldn't afford when they were young, you hide behind jealousy with "spoiled bitch" and "when i was your age, i earned..."

you have to expect some resentment, but this thread ends every week the same way. there's some good advice (drive safely, don't speed, appreciate it, etc.), but for the most part, it's whining and bitching that someone has it easier than you do as if you've earned to right to be ******.

i bought my car, put myself through school, etc., but when i have kids, I will give them what I think they can handle responsibly. If that includes a $30k car, big deal. lucky them.

I just fired a spoiled little bitch like this from my company - couldn't understand why we got mad at him when he constantly missed every deadline handed to him, and left at 5:30 PM every day and came in late every day. And was with us all of two weeks before he asked "when will my first raise be?". He was from a family that had given him everything - his parents bought him his house ($500,000 condo on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago), his car (an M3), and gave him a monthly allowance of $5000 a month. Then, when I fired the little ****, his dad called me with this whole "how dare you fire my son, don't you know who I am?" rap.

I just told the dad, "well, you're apparently a parent who has instilled absolutely no work instinct or survival instinct in your kid" and faxed him his son's performance report showing exactly everything the kid had failed on (literally every assignment given to him in three months of working for us). His dad refused to believe it and said "I'm contacting my lawyer." I just said, "feel free to spend your money."

The lawyer contacted me the next day (this is last week), I faxed him the performance report, he called back and said "I see what you mean." and that was that.

Spoiled ***** go nowhere in life but increasing their suction on the tit.

 

Lots of opinions out there on the whole "I'm 16 & my daddy bought me an 8 because I'm such a wonderful (insert attribute here)" thing. I'll stay out of the opinion war & just make an observation: umbilical cords are being stretched REALLY far these days before being cut!

Possible, but more difficult than if you teach them to work for their possesions. For every example you can give me of a "spoiled" kid with good work ethic, I could probably give you 10 counter-examples.

I'd like to see it, futurebadger07. But this is a rough crowd, and they might flame you if they think it's rice. But the only important thing is that you enjoy the car and you ignore the buddies who are going to urge you to do stupid things in it.

They're just saying that because you're young with a sports car. Plus rear wheel drive is a bit easier to get into trouble with than front and all wheel drive setups. It's not bad advice, especially in inclement weather, but it gets stressed a bit more than normal around these parts.

 

Let's see....which car would a teen (or anyone else for that matter) be most likely to drive with wild abandon--a Corolla or an RX-8?

Hmmmmm..... Guess I'll have to think about that for a while.

 

That comment right there validates the reason 16 year olds shouldn't be driving a 238hp rear-wheel drive sports car as their first car.
