Flashing Engine Light?? Anyone KNOW??

Hey I am a fairly new owner of an 05 - 8.. I was driving today on the highway and got up to about 7000rmp then my traction starting flashing and there was a slight lost of power to the wheels.. I shifted and the engine light began to flash.. It flashed for about 20 seconds and then shut off.. I drove to my house, shut the car off.. Started it up again an hour and a half later and all appears to be fine...

Does anyone know why the engine light would flash light that, then shut off??

off hand I don't know, but it might be a good idea to take it to a dealer and let them look at it. might be nothing, but better safe than sorry.

lol, 2 threads of the same topic. and yep, could've been misfire. and lost of power to the wheels... could be dsc/tcs kicking in? (if you're not familiar with it)

Usually the flashing CEl means a mis-fire, especially likely because you were at high rpm. Probably what you felt was the loss of engine power, not traction control.

Have you changed the spark plugs? They only last about 40k max.

Perhaps using cheapo gas?

91 octane or better!

i only run 93.

I have an 05 only 17km.. It seems fine now.. I'm taking it for oil change on Thursday. Guess we will see then..
I only run 91 premium here in canada.. So is a misfire a big deal?? Cause damage or anything?

How wierd...Same thing happened to me today. I took it to redline, and after I shifted, the engine light was coming on and off for a few seconds. My 8 has had its recalls done, and just hit 40k miles today.

It's a misfire, go replace your coils.
