and also here in AZ I believe it's the law that a picture of my face is needed also for proof of who was driving. If I saw no flash from the front, I think I might be okay...

Here the vans use a very strong K band signal, so you get plenty of warning.

1. since this happened at night and they used a flash, the light would reflect off your windshield and plates, so your face along with the plates would be one big ball of light. unless they're using a diffused flash, then good luck :biggthump

2. if people have complained about the blinding light, why do they still use that technique? i'd see it causing more harm than keeping people safe.

3. don't drive that fast when you know these things are around. common sense dude.

some gov person who sits in a van shooting speeders with a camera to get their plates.... bam, ticket in the mail

Pics or it didn't happen. Usually I get flashed at football games, but not often on the freeway.

agree completely. and as for plates, i know they now have like auto detecting license plates. cops now roll through parking lots and can scan like 5-7 cars per second going no more than 10 miles an hour.

This thread is cracking me up. Way to give it some comedy life. HAHA

I've been flashed, but thankfully not the OP way. ;) In fact I've never seen it. We still have cops hanging out late atnight5 on freeway. I guess living right smack in the middle of NYC and Philadelphia, since it's so populated, and cops are all over the freeways, I won't ever see this. ;)

Your not getting a ticket even if they did flash you and got a perfect picture of your face and plate. AZ has a law that the speeding cameras are only valid for civil speeding NOT criminal speeding. count your blessing yo ass is lucky!!

most likely they were doing civil speeding 1-19+ over the speed limit. whereas you were doing criminal speeding 20+ over posted speed limit you can not get charged. someone that interprets laws was on the news the other night and said the the way the law is written DPS can not file charges and issue tickets for crimminal speeding via photo radar ONLY on the highways. plus this law was just changed or just announced like middle last week.

DarkLord7854 Mar 1, 2009 05:23 PM

So if you want to speed.. go 20+ so you can't get ticketed.. makes sense. not.

I was reading in the newspaper that some guy was caught by speed cameras going 120 in a 55 and cops came to his house and arrested him

The difference between Criminal & Civil Speeding Tickets is the burden of proof. If you take a criminal offense to court and fight it, the whole jury has to find that it was you beyond a reasonable doubt. In a civil offense, the burden of proof is less. They just have to find that you are likely to have committed the crime.
That is how you are required to pay parking tickets which is a civil offense.
Example: Because you are the owner of the vehicle and most likely parked it there, you (the registered owner) are responsible for the ticket. If it was a criminal offense, they would have to have a picture/video of you in the drivers seat parking the car.
You may find this wiki on Burden of Proof interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burden_of_proof
I have no idea what is going on in your state and I am not a lawyer. I am just trying to bring a reasonable answer to why there may be a difference.
If you we going 20+ over in a speedtrap, I don't know why they couldn't give you a civil ticket.

Oh about the criminal speeding, it becomes a felony when you have 2 things going on, like the wreckless and 20 over the officer said that it will be a felony if they catch you cutting in and out of traffic, speeding 20 over and improper lane change but don't quote me.

I think your right, my little bro had this problem recently but I cannot remember everything he did, it was something like ran a stop sign, ran out in front of a car and then continued to go 70 in a 55

Either that is somewhat new or doesnt apply everywhere. I was doing 140 in tampa a few years ago. Got busted and revieved a speeding ticket and wreckless driving ticket. Wasnt a felony. I was an idiot and pled no contest (learn from my mistake!) and got raped with fines and stuff but no felony

Slow Down.

Problem Solved.
