First Thoughts
I just picked up my 8 tonight. It's an 04, manual.
My previous car was a 1995 Trans Am with a 5.7L LT1 V8. It was totaled when a deer decided to run out in front of me going 75mph on the highway :tank: :nopity: But so far I'm loving my new toy. Love the styling. Mostly the interior. My old car was also a 2+2 but was far less comfortable for those in the back. Also, the navigation works great, heated seats not so much (It was below freezing tonight). Handling is phenomenal. This car is more fun to drive than anything I've driven yet. No Low End Torque! At all. Love the sound of it! Mine smells almost toxic though. Engine running poorly? Also, rough shifting. I also got a 4 year warranty for $1,000 that covers engine, transmission, suspension, air conditioning and steering. I am very disappointed it doesn't have an auxiliary port. There's a button for tape But I can't find a tape player. Very comfortable car. I am extremely satisfied with my new purchase. Glad to join the club. :dubs: |
Welcome brah
finally decided to own a real car huh? lol |
I have a button for a tape as well. I think that is because of the premium audio had a different head unit.

You will find out how bad its polluting, and that usually means you need a replacement convertor, and or a replacement ignition system. If you wanted to do a before and after ignition system replacement test at the emissions center, let me know, and I can swap in the 20k mile ignition system from my 2011 car to see if it improves your test results. Then, after that's done, you need to get that compression test so that you can take advantage of their "warranty". BC. |
+1 on the compression test lol.

Welcome to the club. Take it to a dealer for a compression test and a look at your cat. If you do not know how old spark plugs, wires, and coils are you should change them. Check the starter and make sure it is the upgraded one. Make sure the car has been flashed with MSP16. Check airfilter, clean maf, and ess. Here is some good info for new owners that you might want to take a look: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discuss...t-here-202454/

welcome to the dark side. If you aren't sure on the age of your ignition components, do a plug, coils, wire replacement. These cars thrive with fresh bits there. And I agree with you on the handling. My 8 is the closest thing to riding a motorcycle on a twisty road that I've ever found. |
