Finnaly broke 100k on 04 gt6spd
Hey just wondering if you guys had any recommendations on things that should be done or considered at 100k miles. I'm second owner of the car ad I purchased her at 32k mikes from previous owner. Car has done overall well
Over the past couple of years. It's only died once and my father and I contributed that to vapor lock on a hot day from gas cap Wich did throw a CEL with code for the cap. So far no mods other than k&n filter in stock box. I got tired of most places not having one in stock so I just ordered one and do my own oil changes and basic stuff. Makes it almost 2.5k before becoming half quart low between changes. Recently the head lamp level error light pops up here and there (usually if it's raining). Other than that im overall satisfied. Never have experienced flooding and once again under extreme heat outside (101°) in rush hour I stalled and it was hard to start. Also for those who want to know I get about 275 miles to the tank. Could Probably go further but I'm not trying to walk or tow my car. Radio sucks butt, however when weather permits i put don window and listen to rotary bliss. UPDATE: drivers side window regulator just broke. Oh boy. Today I noticed time for tires and is it correct that all 8's wear rear tires in the inside and middle of tread More than outside edges. Tire man swears I have bad alignment but every 8 I've see wears tires the same way. All comments welcome and I hope you guys are having a great time whatever your milage may be. |
If your tires are wearing the inside/middle more than the outside then you likely have some negative camber which isn't necessarily a bad thing and actually helps traction in the corners.
My recommendation? Buy a bottle of champagne and celebrate considering how many people we know that had '04's on this forum who've had to get their engines replaced well before 100k. Look in the manual for doing maintenance stuff if you haven't already, or in a long time since you haven't listed anything you have replaced already beforehand |
I'm over 80K miles on my 04. Congrats on yours.
What's your driving style? Head lamp leveling system uses two sensors on the suspension. They are easy to rebuild if they're not rotted. The connectors need to be sealed at the wires to prevent water infiltration. Camber wear on the rear is normal. I replaced a tail light gasket... now I need the other one too. Brakes done once. Suspension done. Always upgraded. Everything else is purely mods. I'd check your clutch pedal assembly for metal fatigue and consider the reinforcement bracket |

Well I guess I am lucky. I think next mission maybe do small exhaust upgrade but really want to spend efforts on spritzing up the interior. No nav and the factory stereo sucks. But overall I've been happy with car. Will there be another speed 6 or speed version of the 8 any time soon you think?

You guys should be impressed that you made it to 100k on an original 04 engine. There are so many of them that are coming up with problems these days and ending up having to be replaced with remanufactured engines...in fact, I ended needing a new one around the time I made it to the 70k mark myself. I think everyone with an 8 (that still has its original engine) should pay for a compression test somewhere between 70,000 - 90,000 miles just to be safe

congrats thats awesome to hear

mm.... I still have a long way to go.
hope I make it. |
I've got about 500 miles left and I'll be over 100k too on my 04 6 speed. I had a compression check about 6.000 miles ago and it showed everything was good. I'm hoping to make it to 200k!

I just went over 120,000. It took me three engines to get there but still

Congrats. Here's to hoping you get another 100,000.
