Figured out whats rattling in my door

Ive had my 8 for about 3 months and there's been this vibration on the drivers side door, I brought it to Mazda to get some recall work done (Airbag/Dynamic Damper/ReFlash) they did the flash, but had to order parts for the recalls, still havent heard back after three weeks, but they said it was gonna take a while to find the noise, fortunately I figured it out, its the door handle vibrating with the bass, anyone else had this problem, I figured it should just need to be tightend from the inside.

Tayninh 10-04-2004 05:13 PM

Never looked at how the door handle is attached. It very well could be an allen type screw or just a simple screw or nut that might need a little tightening. You have the Bose system then?

RedRenisis 10-04-2004 05:20 PM

Yeah I have the BOSE audio, Im hoping it something simple like that, I'd hate to have an extra key for my door if they have to swap out the handles and locks, Im gonna bring it back in this week.

Tayninh 10-04-2004 05:27 PM

Hope the dealer takes care of it then. I would not think they would go to that much trouble to replace the locks and code in new keys. Then it impacts the ignition key switch as well. Think its only a simple fix then.

It could also be the styrofoam blocks in the door as well. I had mine removed when the dealer agreed to dynomat my doors to help with the noise.

RedRenisis 10-04-2004 05:33 PM

93rdcurrent, you had the same problem with the noise, was it both doors, or just one, I think they should check both, it probably does it on the passenger side, I just cant hear it, or it could be the passenger door just hasnt been used as much and it will happen to that side eventually

i have a sound on my drivers side door near the end of the door thats close to the suicide door. It rattles/shakes on the highway. sounds like something is clingy against glass or some odd sound. for some reason, its gone now. so im happy for now.

Mine was on both doors. Last winter when it was cold both doors were squeaking very loudly. Turns out that the styrofoam blocks would shrink in cold temps allowing them to move around and also making it sound like there was someone sitting in my car with leather pants on my leather seats. With the volume on the stereo turned up it would rattle. The Dynomat helped the rattle and ridding the car of the styrofoam blocks has ended the squeaks.

thats the one whosyourbaba, mine rattles in the exact same spot, I only realized where it was coming from the other day while I was wiping her down, I had the windows down and the radio up, and I just pushed the door handle with one finger and held it and the noise stopped, I used to think it was the window rattling inside the door/ or the suicide hinge, but i dont believe that to be the case anymore, all I know 35K on a car, they better fix it, and they better give me a loaner while they fix it

You meant the door handle that's on the inside, right? I have a creaking noise coming from it. I can reproduce it by tugging or pushing on it while the door is closed.

Looks like this is the path that I'll be taking. I read a couple of threads about this and it seems like your dealer is the only one that took the onus to go a step further with this. I don't know much about dynamat but I'll look it up and see if I can buy the stuff to do it myself.

This is the problem with putting subs in a door. I am moving mine to a cut-out in the rear under the dash. The front is getting Focal Utopia 3 ways. My rear speakers are going to be replaced with my Focal Pollyglass 2 ways. I am also replacing the amp with a Tarrantula 800 5 channel amp. The center speaker will be run off the deck and I might replace it with a small Oz mid or maybe a focal mid. System should sound a lot better then and it should get rid of any door rattles caused by the subs

You can buy it on ebay.

hmm, ill try it the next time i hear the sound. when i was driving on the highway, i muted my music and i still heard it. i had to push the spot for it to quiet down a little. im going to bring it to the dealer, but i cant reproduce the sound lately. but im just going to get all my odd sounds checked out.

RedRenesis,

I have noticed this as well, when I wash the car, as this is the only time the stereo is really pumping.

Let us know what the dealer does, I'm going to ask my dealer to look at this, next service.

RedRenisis 10-04-2004 06:49 PM

I will def. keep everyone updated, glad to know that im not the only one with this prob, and the sound is coming from the outside door handle not the inside, if you roll down your windows and turn up the radio, stand next to the car, and when you hear the noise, gently push the handle toward the inside of the car and hold it, the noise should stop and then ressume again when you take your finger off it, as far as putting dynomat in the car, who did this for you the dealer?
do you know how much total lbs were added.

carolina 10-04-2004 06:50 PM

Mine did that as well..I thought it was the small cd box I had in the door..thx for the post

RedRenisis 10-04-2004 06:51 PM

Also for a while I was pushing in on the door panel in random spots from inside the car to try and locate it, it seemed to stop when I had my elbow pushed hard into the door by the suicide door handle, but I really feel its coming from a loose door handle (exteritor)

93rdcurrent 10-05-2004 12:33 PM

The dealer paid a car audio shop to put it in. I believe that it added a few pounds (Dynamat is after all asphalt based). But if you are seriously worried about the balance of the car or how much added weight then you must be taking your car to the track otherwise you wouldn't even notice. The door doesn't feel any heavier to close. I really doubt you even notice at the track. I'm sure that taking your floor mats out will counter-balance the weight increase... :D All joking asside it isn't a big weight gain and your subs will sound so much better.

Did you have to pay anything to get the dealer to install the dynamat? I know that stuff isn't cheap. I have the bose, and Any sort of music with bass, and it's just plain noisy and annoying. I'm surprised Mazda didn't figure this out putting subs in our doors.

93rdcurrent 10-05-2004 12:51 PM

No it was all under the warranty. My dealership had to get permission from their DM but it was an attempt to address the problem on the car for everyone.
