a few ?'s concerning the rx8

Hey guys, Im new here. I was just had a few thoughts concerning the rx8:

1) Is an MP3 a factory option?
2) If not, can a custom one be installed and still look good?
3) What is the color of the instrument panel and gauge cluster?
4) last of all, what are some of your best 0-60 times and 1/4 mile times?

Thank you for your help. This info will help me make my decision on whether to get one or not.

Welcome!

1) Yes.
2) N/A, since the answer to 1 was yes!
3) gauges are white with red needles during the day, red with red needles at night. other buttons are lit in red at night.
4) Touchy subject! You might as well use the magazine numbers for comparison purposes with other magazine numbers. There haven't been that many 1/4 mi numbers posted here, but they range from 14.5 - 15.2 or so. Even less 0-60 numbers posted. If you're looking for a sports car moreso than a drag racer, though, then you owe it to yourself to drive the car. See if it's powerful enough for you, and make SURE to check the handling - feel, grip, responsiveness. If you really want a straight-line drag racer above all, then the RX-8 isn't the right car.

Regards,
Gordon

Re the MP3 player: It's available as an accessory or as a dealer-installed option (the dealer buys one and installs it for you prior to delivery), but not as a factory option.

Unless you absolutely must factor the cost into the vehicle purchase price, I recommend you buy one from Mazda South (www.mazdastuff.com) or Trussville Mazda, and install it yourself. You'll save around $150 on the unit itself, and another $100-200 that the dealer would charge to install it.

This statement assumes it's an either/or proposition. There are cars that can (or be modified to) excel in both applications.

Well, most muscle cars can't be turned into sweet handling 50-50 weight distributed corner hugging monsters no matter how you pull it. You've got a better chance of taking a nice handling car and adding power to it if you want the best of both worlds.

However there isn't a whole lot of cars out there at a reasonable price that come out of the factory doing both. Hence, for a car to buy straight from the shop for the most part it *is* an either-or proposition - unless you want an economy box like the WRX.

hey maybrx8 check out under the audio portion, some one installed a music keg into thier car, it also has pics, i am thinking of ganking his idea and doing that. Also the car is blast to drive, nothing like putting a loud mouth 350z down when you burn him down a twisting tight road. I have had the car for 2 drivable days and have been happy with the car. But words don't do it justice take it of a spin

Hey do you know you can have White Gauge with red needle at night

Just switch the illumination button max beyond the click and it switches to white/red mode. I prefer this to Amber background but having a choice is great

It's also a lot easier to drive during the day when the lights are on with the white lights.
