A few questions on Mazda Rx-8

Is it true Mazda stopped making the car all together?

How powerful can one be tweaked if they were to buy one new and work on it? I mean suppose if one got a hold of a new one and changed the rotary engine to a non-rotary and added whatever else?

Is a new type of car coming out from Mazda like the Rx-8?

If Mazda is considering getting rid of it, they are stupid. In my opinion the car is one of a kind in design.

Hmm, not sure if you are trolling.

Any check on any automotive site shows that 2011 is the highest model year RX-8 (with an exception of a handful of 2012s run off in Japan that aren't available elsewhere). It was discontinued several years ago.

Doing an engine swap on a low mileage 2011 RX-8 is pretty much just as costly and troublesome as doing it on an original 2004, high or low mileage. An engine swap is not a "tweak", it's going to cost more than the original MSRP of the RX-8 to get a swap completed.

There are lots of rumors about the next rotary, but nothing solid. Don't hold your breath on a replacement, it may never happen.

The RX-8's sales volume was one of the big factors for why it was discontinued. Tightening emissions regulations is another. It had already been discontinued in Europe for a while because emissions laws made it impossible to sell.

Not trolling. Wow I didnt know all that. Thank you. It sucks cause I really love my Rx-8. I keep wondering what my next car will be. I hope Mazda comes up with something. Rx-8 in my opinion was a very nice looking car but for a today car lacks horsepower. I hope it comes back even better.

One more thing. Just surfing Youtube and alot of dudes have souped up their Rx8s, swapped engines, turbos and such.

Yes

There is nothing announced. Only rumors from magazines trying to get new subscribers.Look to the Tokyo Auto Salon, L.A. or Chicago Auto Show for any announcement/show car if/when one is to come out. A dark horse would be the Geneva Auto Show.

Just say if we change the engine and whatever else whats the fastest this car could go?

RIWWP 02-21-2014 02:14 PM

Change it with what?

Change it with a 0.9L 3 cylinder engine and probably 55mph.

Change it with a 4.0L Izuzu V6 and probably 0mph.

Change it with the Veyron's quad turbo W16 and probably 230mph +

Change it with the Alpha Omega's GTR's motor and probably 270mph +

Anything is possible with enough money. Top speed is a function of power and aerodynamics. The only way the "RX-8" part of the build would matter at that point would be the basic aerodynamics that you are working with.

The question is rather pointless?

I dont know, just curious. Was on Youtube now just watching some clips of people swap the engine out for a 20B Turbo engine.

Also traction. A lot of land speed record runs are limited by traction, rather than power. So to go really fast you need jet or rocket.

Even with rocket power there are aero and stability limits. The famous JATO rocket car (Impala-based, I believe) only got up to 300 mph or so before getting airborne and ending badly.

I believe the world record 1/4 mile in an rx8 stands at 6.27 seconds right now. That's with a 20B and a couple hundred grand to work with
