The real feel of the rotary engine comes after the very first rebuild ! Your stress concerning blowing your engine suddenly stops. Now you know the engine life span so you really feel good.
Apart from this feeling sometimes you feel like riding a super balanced car that you are becoming one with your car....the Japanese jimba ittay (horse and rider as one) horses@t philosophy. I never real wish to become one with my car, it is better if you think a rider and a car , two separate things. |
No matter how much power the car has, you always feel like there is more on tap as the car constantly pulls harder the more you rev.

I'm a motocross guy since I was 4. Grew up racing 2 stroke 125s. I always compare it to that. Awesome sound, no power down low, and loves to rev. I'm a big fan of the rev limiter on anything. Plus you get to premix it.

It's a feeling that is difficult to put into words, but you feel connected with the car. The engine spins up very smoothly and the car just sort of gets pulled along with it. There is no sense of separation between driver and drivetrain-which is aided by the superb steering response. Put the engine and the suspension together and the whole experience is one of complete connection to the road. I've never experienced it in any other car I've driven.
I drove a rotary 11 years ago and missed it every day until I got one this year. It's like, what have I been missing, this is how it should feel to drive a car. Also, Holy Teleda Tanada Taneda Carundie I just checked the original post date of this thread. |
I love the feel of the rotary. It just pulls and pulls. And when you think it can't no more just put your foot to the floor and pull some more. It's incredible how smooth it is. My wife (in passenger seat) says it's like a slap in the face when I decide to go without warning. Lol

Timeless thread...discussing a timeless driving experience...
IMO the allure of the "RX_" begins w/ the rotary engine..., but is much more. The rotary engine's silky smooth performance singularly invites high rev wringing for power and enjoyment. While it'll never have the guttural roar of a V8...(admittedly I've a little envy here, :yelrotflm), w/ a few custom touches... it's exhaust note is pleasing, refined..., not obnoxious. The rotary engine's diminutive size & weight allow mid engine mounting...allowing superb balance..., and agile footing. All of this...resulting in a uniquely lithe, nimble, and exhilarating driving experience ...at the RX8 price point. Add a little add'l HP & torque via FI as I did ...and she's a nice machine...again for the price point. Something I recently posted in my build thread that captures the point:

After that... discipline thrown to the wind... :yelrotflm...I fell in behind a rabbit and averaged ~85 mph. She drove like... silk.
