Factory Options Change Cut Off Dates
I went to my dealer this weekend to add the Nav to the car and they told me it was too late.. I came home and emailed mazda asking why I couldn't change something on a car that doesn't exsit yet. This is what they replied:
As for spec changes, it is too late for vehicles ordered during January (April production). If Marlin Mazda ordered your RX-8 during February (May production), or March (June production), it is still possible to make spec changes. The tentative spec change cutoff for May production is April 21, 2003. Tentative spec change cutoff for June production is May 19, 2003. |
I added the NAV to mine on 2/23/03. I am in the first allocation. I thought it was going to be too late but they said it was not a problem. I think you may have been just outside the window for changes.... sorry man. But hey, you can always come and look at the navigation system in my RX-8. :) J/K
PS - Actually you could if you wanted. I live in Ft. Lauderdale... :) |
Hey Superfan,
I also ordered my RX-8 at Marlin Mazda (online order placed on 2/26, visited dealer 2/27, order placed by them on 2/28 but no confirmation number yet). Looks like the RX-8 is going to be pretty popular down here in South Florida. There's already a few of us here. :) I didn't get the NAV on mine since I really couldn't justify the cost. I'm thinking I can always add my own multi-purpose LCD later on if I choose, and for a lot less money. |

JTek, That's the same thing I thought. I doubt I'm ever going to go on a major road trip with this car. Maybe Orlando, FL a couple of times. I would probably use the nav for a couple of weeks and show all my friends and then it would never be used again. Then again, an extra 2k isn't going to put me in the poor house. The other thing I was thinking of are the dealer installed options. That'll probably be another 1k in stuff. Marlin Mazda told me they would add the nav if they could when the car would come in. JTek, Did you preorder at Marlin? I'm also in the first allocation, maybe we get called on the same day to pick up the cars.

It's funny that you mention the dealer installed stuff because I was just thinking about the idea of adding like $1000 in add-ons. With my current price at $33,100 and then with the $1000-$1500 add ons, I will be damn close to $35,000. I really don't want my payment that high so I don't know if adding the nav was such a good idea but I guess it's too late now, huh? |
Yeah the moment you puch the button and the Navi flips up. You will forget all about the payments, Besides lator you can install a dvd player and watch movies. Mazdaspeed has a speedo and RPM gauge program that can displayed on the navi too. Almost makes me want one.
|
Is that MazdaSpeed program readily available? Also, I would think the DVD unit would need some type of connection to the engine/tranny to provide those guages. Does anyone know how this works?

Originally posted by JTek_55 I know, it's true it is a little expensive. But I kind of figured if I am gonna spend $31,000 on a car to get it fully loaded, I might as well get EVERYTHING for a couple grand more... :) |
