Factory Nav

Hey guys, would it be possivble to install the factory nav when your car didnt come with nav when you bought it? I would love to have that nav/dvd screen from the factory. Let me know if this is possible and a ball park estimate on how much. Thanks

You can search this. Bottom line: it can be done. But it's unbelievably expensive—and very hard to do.

i think the estimate was between 1.5 to 2 times the cost of the nav option, and that's if you do the labor yourself. and there is a lot of labor involved.

Yeah, it would cost an assload, plus it would take way too much time.

I was quoted $5000 to put one in a car that didn't have it already and that was supposedly giving me a "break" on costs.

Seriously? Got to be kidding me. Even with a "break" in costs?

Yep. That was an 05 that had most of what I wanted on it except the all important navigation. So, they told me it could be done, would take several days to get it all set up and installed (I doubt that was several days continuous work, though) and that the unit itself would cost me $3000 (which is $1000 over the cost listed on the website as factory installed option) so apparently $2000 for labor was a break.

I gave up on that route because it would be cheaper for me to just order an 06 with everything I wanted in it, plus I didn't have to go to a dealership four hours away to pick it up. My 06 should be here sometime next week.

i built a carputer in my g35 that uses a 7 inch touch screen running windows xp. it not only does gps, it also plays music and dvds and have blue tooth phone answering functions as well as wireless wifi, it cost me a bout 1200 bucks total... to build and install. the computer it self is totally stealth... i dont know if the rx8 has such a solution but it might be worth looking into. I did the installation my self, but it requires a lot of electronic know how, and intimate knowledge of where and how to route the wires for power and auxillary power.
http://www.digitalwheelz.com/ this is my solution

Wow. Sounds like far too much trouble for me, especially since I wouldn't know what I was doing. LOL
