Extended Warranty??

Curious if Mazda is going to sell an Extended warranty on the RX-8? I think it would be wise on a first year model car. But that's certianly something else you have to negotiate at the table.

Does Mazda offer their own extended warranty's? I don't really want to use an outside warranty company, too much paper work hassle to get repairs done.

I know Honda has Honda Care, and we purchased an extended warranty on our car. Which has already paid for it's self since we had to have the A/C compressor replaced. (Over $1000 repair).

Thoughts anyone?

I am 110% sure that Mazda will offer an extended warranty on this car... and EVERY new car they sell. It is foolish for them not to. It's pure profit up front, and many cars will never utilize the warranty if they do not have any serious issues. You can bet your bottom dollar that an extended warranty/maintainence plan will be available at the time of purchase.

When we bought the 10AE Miata, we bought Mazda's own extended warranty. I noted at the time that the application form seemed to imply that the cost would be higher for a rotary-engined vehicle.

Guess we'll have to wait and see what's on offer when the RX-8 finally arrives, but I'll definitely be looking to get an extended warranty.

How much longer and how much was the extended warranty for the miata?

It extended the total warranty period out to 10 years / 100K miles, bumper-to-bumper. Cost about $1500, IIRC, with a $100 deductible per claim. A higher deductible would have reduced the upfront cost, of course. Fully transferable for a nominal fee (around $100, IIRC).

I more than got my money's worth - anything that even looked like needing a repair got fixed, and if I waited until there were several things that needed attention, it only cost me $100 for the lot each time. And because it was Mazda's own warranty company, the dealer took care of everything - all I needed to do was hand over a C-note when I picked it up. :)

Added to the residual value of the vehicle when I sold it, too.

Definately be picking up a plan for my '8', probably a seven year.
Looked at the cost, even for a Millenia it is $1100 to $1400, and it will go a long way to swaying a buyer who may be 'iffy' on a rotary's mechanical reliability when I sell.

Ray.

i haven't done any searching yet (i don't call it "research" until i've done it once ;)) but i don't think there are many mainstream (read: non-exotic) car manufacturer's that DON'T offer extended warrantees now-a-days. someone correct me if i'm wrong.

regardless, i asked about this when i placed my pre-order and we'll definitely have an extended warrantee offered to us...and i'll be grabbin' it up! :D
