Exhaust/Warranty
I just purchased my first rotary/Mazda and I can't be more excited. This board has been great and I've been searching around for about 2 weeks now. A lot of helpful info.
I am picking up my '04 RX-8 tonight and wanted to know if the 100,000 mile warranty will still be good if I put on an aftermarket exhaust? Currently looking at the Greddy cat-back to be the first of my mods for this car. Also, besides major upgrades(a turbo) what modifications will void the warranty? I tried to search for this and found a couple gray responses so I figured I would post. |
The warranty covers engine components. They can't void any warrantly unless they have proof that your exhaust caused engine failure which I doubt that would happen. I think you are fairly safe with an aftermarket one.

An aftermarket exhaust would be fine. Although, I wouldn't put it past a stealership to attempt to weasel out of it by trying to blame it. Shouldn't be hard to shut em up, though.

^wouldn't hurt to keep the stocker just in case u have a problem and need to go to the stealership would make things less of a hassle

Thanks this is what I was probably going to do. Also, did you all put on your exhaust yourself? Looks pretty straight forward, but I don't know how I am going to get my car high enough off of the ground to install.

If you don't know how to jack up a car I don't think exhaust is something you're going to want to do by yourself.
|
I basically just jacked up one side of the car as high as I could get it secured it so it would not fall over jack stands etc etc....and very easy just 2 bolts on the cat and use a pry bar for the rubber gromets and basically just falls out with some menuvering!
