Everything you ever wanted to know about the Rx8
I just found this on a website when looking for an Rx8 Manual and thought I would share:
Awesome! I learned a few things. :-)
repost :) but still cool stuff
This was trivial, but fun :mdrmed:
Thanks for sharing...learned a couple of things that will be useful when i brag about my 8...
Yes this is a repost, but still useful for many owners who don't know these facts.
So the ABS self-testing is what causes that interesting sound:)
I always wondered if the glovebox light stayed on or if a little triangular shaped man lived in there and turned it off when I shut the door.
Every time you first start driving the RX-8 there is an audible thump heard from the car. That is the ABS braking system performing a self-test.
I tried to mention this noise in other threads and people went nuts and thought I was attacking the RX8...they denied it happens...I always heard it. Nice to be validated and nice to know that it isnt something wrong with the cars. |

"Did you know you can clear the KAM (Keep Alive Memory) on the PCM?
Typically this would be done following maintenence on, for instance, the eccentric shaft. Not the type of thing you run around doing all the time. Anyway, the procedure is: 1) Turn the ignition to ON (not START) 2) Depress the brake pedal 20 times in rapid succession The oil pressure needle will sweep to mid gauge and back again indicating the procedure was completed successfully. You must be quick, and you do not have to press the brake pedal hard ... just good taps. The PCM stores fuel trim values. These are basically "learned" compensations for Air/Fuel ratios (AFRs) based on a myriad of inputs from O2 and other sensors. Essentially these values enable the PCM to adjust injector duration (how many milliseonds to spray fuel) to try and reach a prescribed/programmed AFR. The adjustments to the injector cycles are made based on the O2 sensors telling the PCM what is happening (i.e. how much O2 is coming through the CAT) as opposed to what the PCM "thinks" should be happening based on it's programming. These trim values are "learned" based on how you drive the car. If you are changing your driving style, you can force the PCM to calculate new adjustments by flushing the NVRAM. It's not the sort of thing you run around doing. Guys with turbos and piggybacks are having to do this fairly regularly because the PCM fights to provide AFRs based on factory settings which the piggybacks and turbos are trying to overcome. It's just pretty cool that it can be done." would this work to get rid of the cel after installing a cat-delete pipe? |
lol this should be the new thread for reposted information...alright so what oil do you guys use :)

Cool list. I've been hanging out here for the past five years, have seen most of the items, but there were a few I'd never seen before. I'm downloading and saving that post to my archives.

WTF?
You must have found this on a NON American site. since you say>>>> 1. There’s a special compartment for coins to the right of the steering colum no need to use the ashtray! I say>>> Not true on my 06 Shinka, it is on the left side of the steering wheel. and >>>> 2. Using the factory supplied tire sealant as a repair requires the replacement of the tyre. On this side of the pond we spell it TIRE not tyre. hahah either way, good to know stuff, now how do I adjust the clutch height/level? BTW for those of us that do not smoke, why can we not use the ash tray for coins? Hey, I have lots of pennies! |
Even though the site is hosted in the US, it's international. I see things relevant to both sides of the pond (all sides of all ponds, in fact) in that list.
now how do I adjust the clutch height/level? (I think there's a DIY.) BTW for those of us that do not smoke, why can we not use the ash tray for coins? Hey, I have lots of pennies! Ken |
i keep my loonies and toonies there :)

The RX-8 has an electric power steering system. If your RX-8 engine stalls for whatever reason (i.e. run out of fuel) then the electric power steering continues to operate allowing you to steer safely to the side of the road. |
^ actually its not , my car died coming out of a car wash ( ms intake ) and i still had my power steering
tryed it did not work for me
:dunno: tryed it did not work for me
Doesn't work for me either. Do you have a sport? I'm thinking the sport uses a conventional system.
^ if you mean you the steering, unless your car died when you were driving, it will not work.. for ex. putting it in first gear and letting go of the clutch to stall the car.
