Engine warrenty void
 

I have a 2006 rx8 with 52k on it i know about the 8 year/100,000 warranty and i plan on having a compression test done when one of those starts to near a bit more as of now my engine is running fine time will change that though as everyone knows. So my question is i have an aftermarket catback exhaust and a short ram intake will this void my warranty for the new engine.

US Code - Title 15, Chapter 50, Sections 2301-2312:
Legally, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle (per the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C))

^according to that they need proof that said aftermarket part damaged the vehicle. Would they have any proof? Also what are some other things that can void this warranty i do my oil changes every 3000 miles at the dealership so they have record of that anything else i should know?

It depends on the dealer, some are mod friendly, some are not. The law is the law but if they deny you, you will need a lawyer. Most just swap to stock parts for large warranty work.

next time i go for inspection ill see how they feel about the exhaust and the intake

Chances are if you've been taking the car to them every 3k miles for oil changes (are you the original owner? If not, how long have you owned it?), then the dealer is less likely to give you grief about the exhaust system and the intake.

But, its entirely up to them if they are going to deny it.

I would at least switch the intake back to stock.

yea swap the intake back to stock at least..its a 5 minute job. The catback isnt going to "affect" the engine itself. They would have a hard time proving that exhaust damaged the engine/seals etc i would think.

Really? Most Renesi don't fail within the warranty period.

The more and more I read about issues with major warranty claims (such as engine replacements), the more I realize the whole process is very similar to dealing with hospitals and health insurance companies.

It's a crazy comparison, but it sort of makes sense. The doctor needs to submit a pre-authorization to the insurance company, and they decide whether or not the claim justifies a reimbursement. Many "pre-existing" conditions would cause an insurance company to deny the claim all together - even if you really need the procedure.

So, if the dealership is the doctor and Mazda the insurance company, LOL, then it makes sense why many dealers are so picky about maintenance records and aftermarket parts. They simply want to get reimbursed when they submit the claim!!!:mdrmed:

This is entirely correct. My car has an aftermarket catback exhaust and when my engine was replaced there were no questions asked. No receipts needed either. Whereas I have read plenty of other club members getting the run around because of modifications and/or not having receipts. It all depends on the dealer.
