Engine replacement affect value?

Just curious if when you guys have had you engines replaced does it effect the value of the vehicle? Is there something that stays with the vin # that says it has a remanufactured engine in it possibly effecting trade in value? Thoughts? Opinions? Facts? Thanks.

The RX-8 is a bad car to own if resale value is a concern. But as for the engine swap thing it depends on the circumstances. I changed mine at 110,000 miles to a Mazmart rebuit so If I was going to sell mine I would add $2,000 to the price. There are other owners on their 2nd or 3rd rebuilt and under 50,000 miles, those would be screwed value wise.

Mind you Mazmart rebuilds are *much better* than Mazda's

Mazda outsource their rebuilds which end up with nothing but crap.

Mazmart rebuilds are build by one of the most famous Rotary builder in the States.

I have no problem with your opinion with Mazmart. But, the rebuilt engine I received from Mazda, is holding up a lot better than the 2 (original & replacement) that came from Japan as new. Calling them crap is far from the reality.

the question comes up periodically here. the answer really depends on who is doing the shopping. some people like to see that the engine has fewer miles on it and have something "new". others look at it and see that if it had engine problems, what other problems will it have and it will drop in value to them. of course most buyers will use it as a negotiation point and say that it has less value due to the new engine b/c everyone is looking for a reason to pay less. it all depends on the buyer.
