Engine Replaced...Interesting Differences
Just had my engine replaced by the Mazda warranty (Thread here: https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...2&postcount=34 )
I drove it home (about a 10 minute drive). Things I noticed. The car is a lot smoother. I kind of miss a feeling of urgency when I accelerate. This may be due to the traffic and conditions on my way back to work. I almost feel a lack of responsiveness. Then again, I haven't driven it much and its been 2 weeks since I last drove it. Starting the car has never been so smooth. No longer hear a chirping noise when starting. Chirping noise, while gone from starting the car, has now migrated to first gear. From a stop to first gear, I get a chirping sound. The sound, clean as silk. To recap: I hope the soft feeling either goes away, or is based on how I drove it. Starts better, chirping in first gear. The new engine is covered for three years or 36,000 miles Oil was replaced Oil Filter Gasket Set Coolant one coil was replaced air filter / cabin filter replaced wires replaced sparks replaced (even though mine where 500 miles old :p) battery needs replacement but is difficult to get due to the earthquake in Japan Spark Plugs I paid for one coil air filter / cabin filter wires |
I would change the engine oil in 200-500 miles.
Its not about the 5w20 crap (its crap but its whole different matter) Reason why I say change it because new rebuild has some new parts that requires break in, like bearings. and the oil is used to collect those "crap." Mazda even show picture in TSB telling dealership that they should advise customer that they should change their oil in couple hundred miles to "clean" those crap out. |
High-five with the new engine. Now, take care of it seriously this time, good luck.

Day 2. No sluggish feeling. Smooth as silk. Starts like a dream. Very happy.

power came back?
|
I think I was just not using the clutch right after two weeks of Prius use. That and the traffic was very stop / go. Much better now.

so are all the engines that get swaped cover by the same 3/36k warranty no matter the mileage? cuz if so , good to know.

But I was told the warranty is 12 months, 12,000 miles? Anyone else been told differently? |
If you had to pay for the engine out of pocket, that is the 12 month warranty.
If you had your engine replaced under warranty, then it will last you the remainder of your current warranty. Legally, that's all you are entitled to. If you have it on paper from your dealer that your warranty is different, hold onto it. BC. |
In case I wasn't very clear, all the power is back after one day. There is more power and it's a lot more consistent. This is the way to go for sure.

Just follow the Racing beat break in recommendation and you should be good to go.
I break in my motors on the dyno or at the track. |

I have been looking for the TSB you mention in your post. Please assist with a link or TSB number that I can try to locate. Thanks James |

Unless this consists of warming up the car, getting it up to speed and then redlining it repeatedly, I'm not sure I would follow such "sage" advice.
I break in my motors on the dyno or at the track. Well, maybe I will try that on my fourth motor. If the rest of the car holds up that long that is. |
