Engine light - gas cap
So I saw the engine light come on for the first time yesterday. Despite my first reaction that Mazda had engineered another 100 HP to just appear via an idiot light at 11K miles, I was assured to have a trip to the my dealership. I figured out that it was my gas cap during my drive home from watkins glen. I was right, I tightened it and financed a new tank of 91. Anyway my engine light is still on. What to do? Can I fix? Checked the manual - no good.

if you tell your dealer why the light is on, and your for sure its your gas cap,and theres nothing wrong with you gas cap. they wont charge you anything to reset it. I know because my stupid ass has left that thing untightened three times now!!!!!!!!!!

It could be a misshapen filler pipe: http://www.finishlineperformance.com...0-07-1809a.pdf These codes point to evaporative system leaks, and can be triggered by things other than the gas cap. A distinctive thing about the evap codes is that the self-test occurs while the car is off, and the CEL will come on as soon as the car starts. Also, if it's just a loose cap and the cap is tightened, it will take a few cycles for the CEL to clear itself. Ken |
