engine fan loud?

Hi guys, I just picked up my 8 today, loved it.

When I got home, and turned off the engine, about 10 secs later, the engine fan went on, and it was loud. It went on for at least 2 - 3 mins.

Did anyone else experience this? Are rotaries hotter than pistons? Is that why they need to cool down the engine a bit even after its off?

Thanx!

Yes rotaries run hotter, but the fans running after a car is turned of is normal for piston engines too.

Yep, I also noticed it too. The exhaust gas is way hotter than piston.

That's cool...I thought in the JSG heat discussion, that he mentioned his didn't do this, and that people were speculating about making fan-turn-on mods? Maybe my memory is off, but it's nice to hear regardless.

Now it not only revs high like a honda, but whirrrrs for a couple mins after you step out :)

Sounds like a jet in my garage when it goes off. My driver seat seems very warm. Have leather, but seems extra warm. Any one noticing this. The seat heater is turned off.

On page 8-7 of the owner's manual, there is a note that states:

"Once the engine coolant exceeds a preset temperature, an electrical cooling fan turns on. It will continue running for about 10 minutes after the ignition switch is turned to off."

Our fan has gone through this routine on about half of the rides we have taken. It generally runs from about 5 - 10 minutes and then shuts off. I was starting to get concerned due to the amount of time the fan stayed on, but was happy to see this is normal behavior.

cooler engine = longer life....anyway you slice it.

You should be pleased. The only other car I have been in that came with this feature from the factory was a Ferarri F50 ;) I wish so much the FD would do this automatically. As it stands we have to add a fan switch at the ECU to sort of hack it in.
