Engine Cover Question from Newbie...

Hello all. I'm into my third day of owning my first RX-8. Very impressive and unique vehicle.

Anyways. How many of you have taken off the Engine Cover and left it off in lieu of removing it every other fill up to add oil?

Thanks?

Doens't really make any difference.

But then, it takes 5 seconds. Quit being so lazy.

Before you get flamed by everyone, try searching first next time. Here are two (out of many) for you to read.

Look in the DIY section for a post with a title like "Houdini dipstick maneuver."

It describes how to get the stick in and out without removing the cover. Really easy, I'm surprised that Mazda says you need to take the cover off.

Thanks for the help. I'm going by what I was told at the dealership. Every other fuel up you'll need to add a quart... I figure that is a worse case scenario.
But reaching the stick is no trouble as you all know... Thanks again.

They told you "every other fill up to add a quart" ... ?? What morons! Good thing the salesmen don't work on our cars! But then again maybe they should be tied to a pole in the garage so they could learn a thing or two without being able to touch anything.

Not knowing anything about Rotary engines, but owning a few vehicles prior to this one. Adding a quart at every second fill up seemed excessive. But I took it with a grain of salt and figured I'd just check it once a week until I figure out what the car is up to...

Wow, and everyone complains about fuel economy?! You need to tell us all how you're getting ~1500 miles per tank!

This could be accurate, but my guess is that they wanted me outta there so they could watch the football games that were on. I did all my paper work in their TV room so they didn't miss the game... Classic.
