Engine Coolant Light!
i just added engine coolant yesterday, and now today the engine coolant light wont go away
i added this... http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/5126/img0918l.jpg |
if you know it's full and the light is still on then it's probably the sensor. unplug it and just keep and eye on the coolant level or get a new tank.
|
did you do a full flush?
are you certain it's full? |
more than likely it's probably the sensor. It's been going around to a lot of us lately. At first i thought it was the same thing but now my sensor will go off randomly. Jedi's witnessed it in my car. It'll come on during cruising speeds then it'll shut off when i'm at the light. Fans kick on occationally but nothing out of the norm.
Just watch the needle if anything. |

when you say add, you mean add and not replace right?

that happens with me as well. annoyed me so i unplugged it.
Thankfully mazmart is selling new OEM tanks. |
Paul at Rotorsport said the coolant tanks are problematic on the 8 due to the design. Could be an air bubble, bad sensor - might need entire replacing.

but before, (i drive to school 60 miles a day) and sometimes it would go off randomly, but it would turn off within five minutes on the freeway but after i added the coolant (full) now its been on the whole time i have been driving. but im hoping its just the sensor |
sounds like the sensor...unplug or if under warranty take it to mazda!

Re set ECU aee if it comes back
|
resetting the ECU won't do anything, the sensor in the overflow tank is what's triggering the light.
|
ok, so after a drive to CityWalk and the Observatory (near Hollywood Sign) i noticed that the Engine Coolant light does not turn on anymore!

if your car is a 04 or a 05. and you drive for a bit at ~ 70mph for a few minutes. it will come back.. if you are under warranty get it fixed.. if not.. https://www.rx8club.com/mazmart-88/brand-new-oem-coolant-tanks-173380/ really good idea. and comes with a new cap.. beers  |
my car is an 05'.... and yeah i noticed that, like i usually drive around campus to warm it up and then go on the on-ramp redlining in 2nd and 3rd (sometimes... if its a clear freeway) and i usually see the light come up for like 5-10 minutes and then disappears.....
but as long as its just the sensor, then I'm not worried, as long as nothing gets damaged in the long run. |
haha, funny i find this thread...cause this shit is happening to me right now. so there isn't a seperate sensor? you have to replace the entire tank?? that's just retarded...
|
^+1 on retarded....

anyways.... I love your car! i wish i could get my car as low as yours.... but in LA that aint gonna happen:hahano: |
^^ain't that much better around Bmore and DC. i've bottomed out so many times. my under carriage has definately seen better days.
|
BTW, I've seen a few threads on this, but I was at the track yesterday and the coolant light would go on and off throughout the entire lapping session. I have a 2004 car. Temperature gauge was normal. Some sensor issue, your coolant is actually fine.
Strange thing though, is that this does NOT happen to me on the road. But it would regularly happen at the track. So something about constant high cornering forces or speeds or RPMs triggers the problem, probably something with the tank design as mentioned. |
^^^ check your coolant level.
|
Dunno if anyone mentioned this...most 50/50 coolents...you're not suppose to add water to those...idk if you did or not...just throwing that out there.
BTW, the very day I bought my car...It was maybe 94 degrees outside...I ran about 80-90 mph for like 30 mins straight or longer...maybe an hour...coolent light went off...so i droped my speed to like 55-60 mph...it went off a few minutes later... when you say you were at the track, im sure it just got too hot from so much constant high revving. Thats my idea on it. The over all water temp. might have read okay, but your coolent temp could have very well been over heating. |
its probably the sensor those dam things keep breaking i disconnected mine n just check it myself every other fillup.
|
i know, i did not add any distilled water, i just poured it in straight out of the bottle
plus it says it right there in the container ..."Do Not Add Water" |
