Engine bay foam
 

I see a lot of Rx8's with the Foam that surrounds the engine bay removed. I wanted to rip all mine out since it makes it look a lot better. My question is if I remove that foam like substance is it going to damage anything?

But yea, I was also thinking about removing the hood foam, would imagine that would reduce under the hood heat, the engine will make more noise but who cares about that when its a rotary? :)

I think, and I may be wrong, but I believe it is mostly for noise insulation and I don't believe it should affect temperature very much. The hood will probably get hotter since it is being more directly exposed to the engine but I don't believe it will affect it negatively. I say go for it and tell us what you think!

That intake looks like it has one of those home made fuel cells on it. Or I was thinking a water or methonal injection but I have never seen what those look like.

The "foam" on the hood is supposed to drop down on your engine in case there's an engine fire to help smother it out.

did the stuff weigh much at all? I would imagine no? Do you notice any different in sound however or temperature of the hood or on the temp gauge after a spirited drive?

I think it is just there for noise won't help too much for heat i don't think

Those are heat AND flame shields.

Internal ambient temps will benefit greatly with removing the seudo fire blanket, but since Ive actually had my cat catch on fire im keeping it....

I noticed a slight increase in Engine noise when your outside the car, standing up front. You can here that little weeeee noise that we all have a little bit clearer.

The temperature gauge did not go up what so ever. and I drove it non stop for like an hr, hard.

only kidding. So basically it helps a bit in noise reduction, doesn't weight much to make a difference by removing it, and ultimately is a safety feature, so best to leave it on?

I may try it out for a few days if I can take it off cleanly and put it back on cleanly. I'll post before and after pics if I do.

The plastic clips melt away when there is an engine fire. The fabric drops and smothers the engine bay.

I noticed that, I meant more of the unit by the coolant bottle and the hoses connected to it. I wasn't sure what it was. Maby an oil catch can?
