Dynamic Stability Control issue
 

I don't know if this is my imagination, but when I am driving on the highway and DSC is turned on, it seems to me that I have to continually be over correcting the steering. If I hold the steering wheel in one position, the car will veer right or left (very minutely). I am reminded of an old car that has play in the steering - it is not tight.

When I turn the DSC off, the steering seems tighter. i.e. if I move the steering wheel 1 cm the wheels respond.

Is this my imagination?

You may be feeling the troughs in the road from the trucks. The RX8 is very sensitive to these. I go down interstate 26 to Spartenburg, SC and it will drive you nuts. It feels like the steering lightens up and the car moves side ways. When you move the steering to correct it does the same thing the other way. The only thing to do is ride in the left lane to avoid the ruts.

Sounds like a bit of placebo effect tom me. The DSC can't correct your steering. You have a direct physical connection from the steering wheel to the "rack" - you just get power assistance when you're steering the wheel. If DSC was steering the car you'd feel it through the steering wheel.

The DSC will actually apply the brakes selectively when its operating, and you would definitely notice it. In other words I don't think it's causing your problem. Maybe you just had a side wind while you were driving?

It's not the DSC. It's the tires following seams and/or irregularities in the road.
 

Very common in cars with high performance, wide, low profile tires.

You are probably feeling grooves in the road. However, the DSC will also cut throttle in certain circumstances. The throttle in the RX8 is electronic so the DSC has access to cut it.

Sorry, but another vote for your imagination. I have played with DSC on and off. On the street I can't detect any difference unless the light comes on. On the track that is another matter.

Its called "tramlining" ... as in following the rail/rut. So, DSC is your imagination, but it really does jump around...no driving fast on autopilot!

yes. DSC comes on when you sideslip, not in a straight line. Check your alignment. If your toe is out could cause the front tires to hunt.
