Duribilty and Relieabilty
 

Hi, i recently test drove a rx8 and wow.... it wuz amazing, the car felt so good, it felt stable even at 97 mph i didnt know how fast i wuz goin... But anywayz it totaly slipped my mind and i wanted to ask some of your autocrossers this:

How is the duribilty of the rx8's transmisison and drivetrain?

Is it able to withstand drifting and many e-brake pulls?

Is the rx8 a car for doing this kind of " stunts "?

Mostly i will b doin 180 degree turns and 360's, with the e-brake, but i remember reading that the e-brake isnt strong? I read something about if u leave the gar in nutral and the e-brake on the car will still move.... kinda weird.

Just thought the rx8 is good for this because it has decent power, but the low torque might not b the best for this kind of stuff. And the extremely low weight also helps out in this, plus its rwd.

Buy a new Cobra.

I also considerd the cobra, and i would gadly take it, BUT insurance would kill me, and the car dosent handle like i want my next car to handle.

I would get a beater 1st gen if you want to do e-brake pulls and 180's. Im sure the RX-8 could handle it but I would not want to put that much stress on a brand new baby.

If you really are tony montana maybe you should consider an early 80's silver porsche 928 instead?

There haave not been enough reports from people to get a good answer to the durability under such stressful conditions. You could be the first ?? :)

my current " beater " is a 97 f-150 but i cant do those kinds of tricks. Plus it wont be a daily thing that ill b doing it. twice a month maybe?

.... yes a joke. Belive it or not some people actually like to take advantage of their cars performance. Some of you just use the RX8 as a daily driver, and thats fine, but dont bash on me because i want to do something a little more then drive it normal.

I just wanted to know if the rx8's transmission can withstand a couple of these things. My friend has a 92 honda civic that can do it, and im sure if his car can do it, the rx8 could very well match its durabilty, but then again i could be wrong.

Well, I think the key thing you mentioned there is that his car is a 1992 Civic. Not exactly a shortage of parts, nor is there a premium on the service, etc. that it would take to repair your RX-8, should anything fail while drifting, etc (such as, if you wreck the things).

I'm sure the equipment could handle it, but its a matter of paying the price if you should have an accident while playing in it is all. If you are willing to accept the consequences when you drift into a wall or off the track and wreck the car, then more power to you, but it would be far more sensible to buy a smaller, older performance car (old Miata maybe? As mentioned here, a 240SX, or even an old Civic?) and mod it out rather than run the risk of wrecking a car worth 4 or 5 times what a beater would cost you

Too new to know but I'll just say no car will last too long with abusive driving.

You could just risk it, do it and let us know how strong it turns out to be :D

E-brake sliding is for riceboys in FF cars that do it because they think it looks cool to "drift", and don't know any other techniques. (major abuse of the word 'drift' there btw)

What's next, questions about traysliding?

k thanks guys, i knew this forum wouldnt let me down lol. Well ya ive learned alot and you guys do make alot of sense. ill be looking into some others cars as well as the rx8. thanks for the help. and if i do get the rx8 ill post some pics of my " drifting " so you can can see.
