Relatively easy if you have some mechanical aptitude.
Be careful you don't cross the battery terminals when you hook the battery back up, very bad.

Because they're not Mazda dealers.

Get a new 14-tooth one from Wal Mart. I did. No sweat.
I got the Mitsubishi one from WalMart in 2017 ;
Amazon Amazon

The Mitsubishi one seems unavailable now, but here is a new identical one from another manufacturer:

I just got a rx8 at a auction. Just a couple of question since I am a new member and cant post a thread yet. I when I got the car did have a little skip but idled fine. I changed the spark plugs and the alternator now the car has a hard time starting and a really rough idle. I just took it for a quick drive and had smoke coming out the center console. A mechanic friend also came buy to look at it. It smelled electricel but couldnt find any wires that look burnt. The drive shaft is rusted from where we ripped the center out. Could that be the cause of it? Also the heat shield around the cat is pretty rusted wondering if I am getting smoke just from all the Rust where the car has been sitting since only God and the auction house knows when lol

are all the plugs in the right spot and wires clicked on tight? you should also change the coils. unless your car is an auto the drive shaft is c/f and wont rust. your post is confusing, why did you remove the console? check the cat as they are know to go bad if the ignition system isnt kept on on and a clogged cat will kill your engine

miles? transmission? year?

read the new owners thread

Sorry it's so confusing but yes all the plugs are in the right spots. And the wires are on tight. I will change out the coils.

We took off the center console cause smoke was coming up through it. We thought at first an electrical fire under the console.

It is a manual, 2004 with 98,000 miles. Hope that helps to clear things up

I thought I'd get the RX-8 community's input on this piston engine issue I'm having. Honda K24A engine (2.4L I4) having a P0325 knock sensor issue. I've checked the knock sensor and connection to the PCM and they are all OK (good V response, no short). I've recently run two tanks worth of 93 RON gas with MMT additive (net 97 RON) with no impact. If I run the Honda dx (reset PCM and run the engine for 5+ min at 3000 rpm in Park after engine is warm - at least one fan cycle) never throws the code - it only occurs while driving. Any thoughts before I start looking into lower temp spark plugs, coolant system cleaning, or buildup in the combustion chamber (higher compression related issues). I have been faithfully changing oil at 3000 mi OCI with wally world 5W30, Techron once per oil change, and coolant changes ever 2 years one this 1-owner car, Coil on plug and plug changes 2 years / 38K miles ago.

Head to DriveAccord and ask there. You will have better luck there.

I have the service manual for 08-10(8th Gen) Accords so there might be something in there.

It's a fault with the sensor circuit, so I wouldn't look at deposits, spark plugs, etc. If it only occurs while driving then perhaps there's an intermittent connection somewhere that shakes around? A frayed wire or loose connector? See if you can trigger the code while stationary by manually wiggling the wire. If so, try to narrow down which section of wire causes it when wiggled.

I mean it's that or compression loss. New engine time. This is a rotary forum after all.

Hey all, just found a 2009 rx8 in good cond going for $2900 AUD, however the owner believes the engine requires a full rebuild. I asked if it cranked and he said no, so i was just wondering if there was a possibility that it was something else that needs replacing, rather than the engine? New to the whole scene with 0 irl experience, so very appreciative of the help!!

Figure out why it won't turn over.... battery, cables, fuses , starter? I've heard of a few starter solenoid trigger wires falling off... it won't do anything like that.

If it won't start after that it might be flooded. if it's a MT car try and tow start it...

If that doesnt work start t0he usual diagnosis... fuel? spark? Compression?
Good luck and let us know how it goes

It's possible it has other problems AND needs a rebuild. Always assume it needs one in the near future, unless the seller can prove otherwise, and see if you're comfortable with that. Nothing wrong with a rebuild, some people even prefer to get a good shell and add known good motor. Just a question of whether that's something you want to invest time and money into.

I'll ask the seller a few more questions and see if I can arrange an inspection. I'm currently in uni so a rebuild is currently out of my budget so it might be best to look for something a bit more costly but reliable. Thank you all!!

If it's a MT ..not at all. If it's an AT ...max recommended is around 20 miles (from memory) so you are still good

Why?

You can get your front wheels on the ground or have dollies under the rear wheels. Check the Owner's Manual to see how to get towed properly.

Don't let your drive wheels(rear wheels in this case) touch the ground.

What's up guys, so I found out how to register non-oem tire sensors. Just put the key in, I know it wasn't on but not sure if the key was on the first click where you can see the dash lite up then hit the hazard button five times and turn the car on. The sensor went away.

Now my current problem ugh,,,, my 05 has the engine light on. The code is 2070. Is it the Intake Manifold Runner Valve?

i ran a wet zex kit on my 04 for years but it was a manual trans as have many others here. there was a member years ago that used n02 on his auto (easy1e was his name iirc) the thing is spraying at the right rpm so you dont get pooling and blow up your uim, he wasted a few of them

I just spent a few minutes looking for his thread but I didn't see it.
I don't remember it getting sold.
Maybe PM him.
