How about a list of possible, off the shelf turbos that would be reasonably well matched to the rx8. T618z on the small end.

Make the list heavy on ballbearing, water-cooled units that would spin up no sooner than 4250 rpm and no later than 5000. Flows somewhere north of 300g/sec at >70% eff. But less than 500. Can include any make, model that can be accessed off-the-shelf.

Do you really believe the type of people that would ask a dumb or frequently-asked question would have the discipline to migrate to this thread to ask it?

Not anything but a serious question. Dumb only in that I am sure I could gather the information myself, but was hoping either for inspiration or a inclusive list so that I wouldn't have to do the work.

As I am putting together a build, I need to figure out what snail I am going to build around. I already have on my list the Garrett 3071R, 3076R and GTX versions. Not sure if the larger, medium framed 32 and 35 series will fit, but they might work with some modification.

I really dont know about the sizing on other manufacturers like HKS or modified turbos like the modified evo green/red/black turbos.

As the build should start near the end of DEC, (given I can get my act together and get the car whereever it needs to go) I need to gather this info quickly.

The next dumb question will be how to size an external wastegate. BUt that is for later...

OK I can ask a serious dumb question. I have a scanner with live data and I want to mount it somewhere in order to monitor sensors data while I am driving. I tried universal windshield mount with no luck. It is heavy and it is rather big. I want to mount it somewhere close to glove box without drilling any hole in the car. Any idea of what I can use to do this?

...even when it's, like, misting or foggy, the faster you drive, the more water gets all over the windshield. It's so weird. I stop, it doesn't rain so hard. You go, it rains harder.

Somebody figure this out.

Why did the universal windshield mount not work? The reason I'm asking is that if it's a little to heavy or awkward to go on the windshield, I have this mount for my radar detector that goes directly on the rear view mirror mount. It works beautifully.

Would thsi placement work? If you're driving, how are you going to watch realtime sensor data when it's next to the glovebox?
It looks like just this one...

The problem is it is heavy and big. I mounted it on my windshield and before I start driving it fell down, like in 5 mins. It is big to be up top in windshield and it is going to block my view. I am trying to think of a way to mount it as close as possible to where CD player and controls are. Either passenger side or driver side. This way it is not going to block my view and I can quickly glance at it while driving.

I was wondering what it means to rev. Like what is the correct way of revving the RX8. I read that for the AT you need to rev them about every other day. So i was just wondering how its done, along with when would be the best time to do it. Does it matter in terms of MT and AT? if so i would like the answer to be focused more towards a AT. i hope these are the kinds of questions that belong here.
thank you for your time.

I don't know if you are serious or not. I think you are joking but since this is your first post you might be serious. Reving it means you should take your RPM close to redline once a day while driving. Make sure your car is fully warmed up before doing that. For AT you should put it in manual mode and use the paddle shifter.

Brettus, this is exactly why there are so many threads with dumb questions. I know you did not want this to turn out this way but some people are ruining it for everyone else. Anyway, good idea bad outcome, only happens in rx8club.com

Sorry, this is a serious question but i guess i worded it wrong. I guess what i am trying to say is this; is revving something you do when you down shift so that the RPM get to redline? I am guessing it is like putting the car in neutral and pressing on the gas but instead it's done while driving? down shift so that the car reaches redline faster? if it is like that, would pressing on the gas pedal after hitting the redline be bad for the engine? essential how long should someone keep the RPM close to the redline?

I forgot to tell you the rule of this club. You are not an RX8 owner until you post pictures of it. To answer your question we need more info as your cars mileage and what has been done to it so far.

oh..i am currently not an RX8 owner but i have been reading some of the things from this forum.
i have read from the following links on this site.
https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-forum-197/rx8-faq-new-owners-116484/
https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-forum-197/new-potential-owners-start-here-202454/
i know i dont know much about cars but from reading the second link i believe i understand what it takes to maintain this kind of car and i was simply a little confused when it came to revving the RX8. for the past 5years I have driven a 1996 Toyota land cruiser and i have taken good care of it. the MPG and The Oil that the RX8 uses wouldn't be a problem for me. atm i am just doing research and reading a lot of things from this forum. i figured id post what you guys would presume to be a dumb question here in hopes of clearing up how to rev.
