Dual mass flywheel??

Hey guys,
My new clutch will be arriving soon and when i install it I want to get the flywheel machined, but the guy at the shop said he cant do it if its a dual mass flywheel.
So im just asking whether the rx8 has a dual mass flywheel or not.

Cheers, Daniel

I'm not sure what a dual mass flywheel is. I've never heard that term before. The flywheel does have a built in counterweight, if that's what is meant.
I once had a car that had the flywheel resurfaced as a part of a clutch replacement. It also had a built in counterweight. When I tried to drive the car it vibrated violently. The dealership couldn't come up with an explanation why it would do it. It either had to be the flywheel or they screwed up something, so I had them replace the flywheel and the vibration went away. Since that time, I have never had a flywheel resurfaced again.

With a little searching, I have found that dual mass flywheels are mainly used in diesel applications, not in gasoline engines.

Mazdaspeed 3 and Mazdaspeed 6 use dual mass flywheels. They are both direct injection gasoline engines though, so some similarities with the fuel injection system of diesels.

The BMW 318Ti along with any E36 318 had one...just fyi. I hated having one in my car but never had the cash to swap it out to a lightweight one.

Our fw is not dual mass, most cars don't even have it. So Just resurface it .
