DSC and STOP
 

...where STOP= Spin Tires On Pavement. I've been following the thread that suggests fully turning off the DSC system might enhance performance, MPG and enhance the ability to burn rubber with both rear tires. I could be wrong, but I thought the RX-8 had a mechanical LS (limited slip) rear axle. If so, wouldn't the ability (or lack thereof) to burn rubber be the same with DCS on or off?

Or, if the DCS system does interfere with full-power burning rubber, wouldn't it do so by modulating the rear wheel brakes or throttle and not the LS differential?

Yes the RX-8 has a LSD but this does no meen that the wheels won't spin it just means that when they do they will spin together, and not just one or the other like alot of cars. LSD's were designed to give you better control like if you are going around and turn and you loose traction on a car without a lsd one wheel will spin faster than the other causing you to loose control alot easier. With and LSD they spin together.

DCS limits spinning the rear tires by applying the brakes and/or reducing the throttle.

the lsd would only come into play if one wheel is spinning faster than the other, like in a turn or if the tires are on surfaces that have differeing amounts of traction. a burn out is no different to a lsd than driving normally in a straight line.

When I was a kid, the LS rear ends were called Posi-traction. It was really the thing to have if you owned a big-bore V-8 car. I remember when an aquaintance of mine was selling his '63 Ford Gallaxie 500 that had a 406 ci V-8 in it. Before he put it on the market, he replaced the posi-traction axle with the stock axle and also replaced the tri-power (three 2-barrel carbs) with the stock 4-barrel. I was interested in the car, so I took it for a test drive. Of course, I had to see what it would do while pulling onto the highway (a 90 degree turn to the right), so I dumped the clutch while nailing the throttle. The right rear lit up in a cloud of white smoke for about 200 feet or more. It was amazing; the car wasn't really going anywhere fast :mdrmed:
