dsc rocks!
 

I turned off the dsc button (simple 1 sec push) for the first time since I bought my rx8 7500 miles ago. In first gear about 3500 rpm I dropped the clutch and just roasted the tires and the rear end did a 180* coming out of 7-11 parking lot (well probably more like 100*). Anyway surprised the shit out of me as I've done the same thing 20 times with the dsc on and never felt a thing!
I can't believe what a difference dsc makes!! I probably won't never do that again because I have been trying to get 25,000 out of my oem tires and I smelled something funny right afterwards. (of course never is so definitive)
Man I love my car---- always some new adventure.............(except for my 1500 degree cupholder of course) :)
In the spring I will have to hold dsc in for 8 seconds and check that out too..I'll keep that little ray of sunshine in my pocket for a rainy day :cool:

I like to call DSC "The Nanny" .... she's there to keep you safe, even if she is a bit annoying from time to time. And, like everyone's private fantasy's of a nanny, she comes wrapped in a beautiful package.

The smell was probably your clutch

wow....In both my test drives, with the 7-second button push, I could not get the car to burn out even a little with anything below about 7K launch. 3500 launch? That's only got about 100ft-lbs of torque turning those rather large tires. hmm...

I was kinda hoping it was only the tires :eek:
3500 rpm was all it took to get my attention--that's for sure.
I'll keep my nanny engaged for awhile--what a beautiful package (except for the 1500 degree cupholder,of course) ;)

If you've gotten that smell before from the clutch, is it really dorking something up?
I've gotten some high rpm starts while on hills before and have gotten that pseudo-burning smell. (Cut me some slack--not a lot of hills where I live)

The problem can be glazing-over the clutch disc, so that it no longer grips properly against the flywheel. A couple of these shouldn't cause issues...but many, and your clutch may start slipping under even normal driving.

yeah, anytime you smell it, it is causing some wear, how much our clutch can take, only time can tell. When you feel the clutch catching try to get it out a little quicker.

Well... from your point of view, if it was from either, it wouldn't be funny... but to the rest of us, if the source of the smell was from inside the cabin... I'd say that was HILARIOUS. ;)


What did it smell like? Asbestos (clutch), Rubber (tires), Poop (your last meal)???

this thread reminds me - did y'all ever see that video of the WS6 sitting there smoking their clutch, cuz they thought it was the tires?? :)

GuysI just wanted to add that DSC really helps whenyour tires are almost bald (like mine). For the first 18000 miles Ihad rarely ever seen the DSC engage -- but nowat 22k w/my tires getting closer andcloser to bald (I dont think anyof them have more than 3/32 left) that DSC light hasbeen coming on at least once a day to savemy ass. Without DSC Iprobably would have had to buy new tires by now. Holding off till the holidays
