Door defect?

Hello, has anyone experienced your doors not shutting all the way unless you give it a little extra tug or push?

I even remember seeing this problem with a RX-8 at the showroom. It was a little more apparent with the passanger side door.

Anyone noticed this?

I thought this was common with new cars, as their weather stripping had not yet compressed to what will eventually become their proper size.

i too noticed this esp with the passanger side door.. I think the cafe door also has some flex to it so that helps make it bounce back a bit when you close it

HiTMaNN 05-19-2004 06:51 PM

hmm i have not noticed... ithink after time it just goes fine

Same thing is with my Protege5. I never seem to have a problem, as I tend to close the doors a little hard, but my mom complained about not shutting all the way.

cafe door?

Same here. The passenger door needs to be closed harder than the driver side. Possibly because it is used less and the weather stripping gets less wear. Partly due to air pressure - crack a window and it takes less effort to close either door.

I have the same problem (with the passenger door) and this was the case ever since the car was brand new. This did not improve significantly, so I'm not entirely sure if this would be related to usage.
The driver's door closes exactly the way I like it - the passenger does not. It bothers me a bit but not as much that I'd bring the car to the dealer for this. I always have the paranoid fear that the shop might cause more damage than it fixes...

Yeah, but it shouldn't be like this. I like closing my windows all the way. I can shut my doors but I just don't like having to almost "slam" them all the time especially the passanger door. Also if you're riding with a conservative passanger he/she will try and be gentle and close them lightly then the door doesn't close all the way and you have to either open them back up or press hard up against it to close which if you do this the wrong way you can put a dent on your door panel.

I totally agree, sometimes I believe that only you the owner takes the best care of your car. It's always a gamble to take your car anywhere for service.

Anyway, I hope I don't have to take my "8" to the dealer for this minor door problem. I just hope it doesn't get worse.

There was some talk about the passenger side door not closing easily last year, mine did this when new as well. Then it seemed to stop last winter, and I hadn't seen it again until a week or two ago.(???)

Something to do with tight air seal, temperature, weather, expansion of metal, celestial positioning, your guess is as good as anything!

It seems to be part of the car, as you see that others experience the same thing. Rotary karama I guess, who knows, no rational explaination.
If we only deal w/little problems like this, all is pretty good, I guess :) .

In my car the passanger door closes just fine... but the driver's door needs to be pushed harder! In addition, I noticed that it makes a strange noise, like a whistle, when I try to close it, although all the windows are shut...

All my doors shut fine. I just wish the detents (sp?) would hold the door open better especially on hills.

I noticed this one night, I was really tired and I got into the 8, backed it out of the garage and the door open light was on. I finally had to get out and open and close all the doors to get the lights to go out. I think it was the passenger door that wasn't closed all the way but you couldn't tell by looking at it. (I had been cleaning the car in the garage and guess I didn't close the door all the way or something..... It hasn't happened again that I can think of...well... maybe it did... I'll pay more attention, didn't seem like too much of a problem so I didn't pay much attention. Now I will....

tRiX8 05-20-2004 04:09 PM

same thing happens to me, passenger door needs a little extra effort, hope it's not a factory defect.

Maybe someone can call up Mazda and find out if this is for certain a defect and if they will do something about it. I would do it but I'm busy at work.

zoom44 05-20-2004 04:32 PM

not too busy to post but to busy to phone 1-800-222-5500? or send an email to rx8orders@mazdausa.com?

exactly! But actually I didn't know where to call and I actually didn't have the time to find out this information or even an email contact. Now that I have it I'll give them a call soon and I'll let you guys know what I find out.

Mazda_newbie 05-20-2004 04:56 PM

@#$%!!! I can't believe I just missed the Mazda customer service hours!!! They just closed at 5:45pm Eastern Standard time. Go figure!!! I'll try and give them a call tomorrow of if someone else wants to call, give it a shot. Actually the more people who call the more they'll think this is an issue and they can do something about this!

thanks...

Haven't had any complaints about the doors yet but I did have the passenger doors not close completely yesterday when I tried to close it. Probably just a 1 time deal though, not gonna worry about it.

Redlinin 8 05-20-2004 05:59 PM

Iv'e always noticed this on 2 door cars. My clk 430 doors need that slam while my e 320 doors close easily.I've also noticed on my cousins m3 and his previous 330cic you had to slam the doors to get them to close.
