Here's the story: coming off a highway onto a right turn that slopes upwards. First rain after two weeks of sun and the road was slippery. DSC was turned off because I wanted to kick the rear out a little bit on the turn - I'd been doing that for a few months and thought I knew what I was doing.

I didn't.

The back end kept going out (to my left) and I panicked, slamming on the brakes and cranking the wheel too far to the right. What would have been a manageable situation turned into a spin to the right, with the front right of the car hitting the middle barricade and then the back quarter smashing into it with slingshot force. :spank:

The wheel is cracked and the car is undriveable. I got it towed to impound and the insurance company will be checking it soon.

The moral of the story: If you think you know what you're doing, you're probably wrong. DSC is there to save your ass from a $100/month insurance hike. I'll probably be driving a shitty Hyundai courtesy car for the rest of the summer.

same thing happened to me. except i hit a telephone pole and a curb. 14,000 insurance dollars later, it came back to life. just be thankful youre alive. i know thats not what you wanna hear, but its really whats important.

Luckly I drove a 10 year old truck for 2 year before I got my 8. That way I was able to learn that I didnt know what I was doing on a piece of crap. Just let it be a lesson learned

at least you're still in 1 whole piece, thats all it matters.

Imma throw my 2 cents and say that tires were also a big factor on your incident there. Body damage don't look too bad but I think you may've bent a link or two in the rear.

I personally dont have that problem, as, well... I've got an '06 base model.... no option to turn on DCS!

as far as controlling it, I've got a bit of experience with bad situations with RWD cars... learned alot from that first snow storm in Northern VA in my first car, an '84 V6 convertible POS mustang. even being a V6, with the added weight of the top's pumps on the back end, and an Auto tranny, that back end likes to just let go... i hit a few curbs in bad ways, but learned not to panic when things go bad...

not saying i know it all, but every little bit counts to pulling outta a bad situation.

They're the oem ones that came with the car, so yeah, for sure they're shite. I blew my tire budget buying winter ones last October though, so I figured I'd ride on these for the summer and buy new ones next season.
Given a time travel button, sure, I'd go back and buy new tires... but then it'd be even cheaper just to go back in time and leave DSC on and not be a stupid shit.

Wow, and neither of those cars will ever be the same....always will have signs of an accident, and a tainted record. I own a bodyshop, and I can tell ya....both of those hits are bad for a keeper.

My perspective was that the tire's poor traction on the wet added to the guy's inability to regain control during the situation, that's all.

Now you need to hope that your insurance company doesn't read that statement about you intentionally doing it.

I just like the part where I don't have to use condoms anymore, because its safer without them. If only that logic worked in real life.
