Does our stock bumpers strong?
I was sitting in my car and was waiting for my girlfriend to come... and suddenly the
Toyota Rav4 SUV was backing up and wow, it hit right into my front bumper. (It was a power backup). Took a look at my 8, and looks like there isn't any bumps or dents or whatever (it was snowing and dark). Anyways, me and the toyota guy agreed to meet at the collision center tomorrow morning and was wondering how strong our stock front bumpers are. If the estimate comes out nothing, then I don't have to worry about anything true? or are there any side-effects of hitting the front bumper pretty hard? Thanks |
errrrm, if you cant see anything out of ordinary its probably fine. if the bumper did hit some of the hard parts it will show up.
where did he hit? |

Sometimes our stock bumpers does strong.:Wconfused
You might not notice the spider web cracking in the paint until tomorrow. |
Any pics of the hit?
|
My bumper cracked from a snowbank... so no my stock bumper "does not strong".

Doesn't the answer depend on what strong does?
|
You won't know until you remove the bumper (10 minutes for a tech).
The steel reinforcement may be bent, the plastic shock absorber will definitely need replacing. Sometimes does strong just hide bent. |
If I was waiting for my gf to come,I'd at least be helping her, anyways, go to a gas station and take pics under a strong light . Check the mounting points for the bumper where the long metal bracket runs under the hood.Lift the rubber flap to see if there is damage .

First of all, the part you think is the bumper is really the bumper cover; the actual bumper behind it is strong – like all bumpers – and ugly, which is why bumpers are behind bumper covers.
Second, take a closer look. What happened to you happened to me some years ago. Guy in a BMW slowly backed into me one night. I got out, looked, didn't see any damage. Guy offered to pay if there was any but it looked fine to me. Next day I noticed the cover and the lower hood (this was a Miata) had fine scratches all over the place. |

I'm still trying to figure out what a "power backup" is.
