Does any one's dash rattle?

I went through some searching and couldnt find a thread directly related to the whole driver's side dash rattling. I feel like the whole speedometer/tach/dash display vibrates/shakes as a whole and causes vibrating during anything less than perfect roads.

Has any one had this issue before? I have not tried to do much with this yet because it seems like its just 1 giant piece of plastic holding your displays and what not.

Any one ever had this and solved it?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure there is a known steering wheel rattle that may be what you are hearing.

also appears to be a gauge cluster rattle as well...

I started getting a rattling from what I thought was in front of me also, turns out it was the little triangle vent for the driver window. If I pressed it, the sound went away.

I have been tracking this problem down for a decade it seems. I have clamped my instrument panel by hand, pushed down on the front of the dash with my hand, pushed near the center of the dash with my hand, pushed with both hands against everything at the same time.. all while driving haha, and what i have found is this:

1: My rearview mirror rattles all the time basically
2: Mazda quietly released a service bulletin about this, they say it is actually he airbag cover in the steering wheel and that all that needs to be done is remove this, and place small sticky foam circles in certain areas of the steering wheel and replace the cover. I checked this out myself and that is indeed what was rattling because it stopped when i pressed against it. HOWEVER
3: I removed my headliner and the pillar covers because I was looking at taking out my sunroof and i haven't heard the noise since (from what I can recall) and im sure its just coincidental I stopped the rattling at the same time i figured out the steering wheel thing and removed my headliner

Regardless, I know how frustrating that is lol. I haven't taken apart my wheel because when i learned this what i did was gradually pull back on the top of the steering wheel cover, with very mild effort, for only a few seconds while driving, and i only did it once per trip, definitly less than/equal to 4 times total, and i haven't heard the sound in 20k miles. Which is about the same time i removed the headliner lol so just saying try that, its harmless, then if that doesnt work spend $2 for little foam sticky circles nd remove the cover and place them everywhere (or from what you can tell are known points of contact because like i said i haven't removed the cover) otherwise remove your headliner :P jk maybe push against the piller covers to see what happens. Let me know.

Post note: check out what kaiser recommended. But what I did unknowingly fixed my problem before I knew about the service bulletin

Mine does not rattle, so i cannot answer your question... :cwm27:

Anyway, the only thing that rattles in my car is the glove box. I folded a few pages of paper 3 times and inserted them on the opening of the top of the glove box and the rattle stops, problem solved. ;)

my glove box drives me crazy, and the driver side mirror, I'm going to stuff them with some 3M tape and force them close so they don't rattle.

Sorry, but good luck finding a car that doesn't rattle. I know mine has several, I blame it on winter.

I have some rattles, especially in the winter when the car is cold. Nothing too loud though and only over big bumps.
There are a few known rattles with the RX8. Inside the door pannel, rearview mirror, and by the center speaker on the dash.
My sunroof is the loudest one. It does it every time the sunroof is open.

This is a fairly common rattle. If I recall correctly, there are 2 screws under the instrument pod that secure it on the back (steering wheel) end, and it slips into 2 clips on the front (windshield) end. It tends to rattle in the clips. You can remove it and apply your choice of materials to help isolate and stabilize it in the clip mountings, or just jam a small piece of cardboard somewhere in the gap.

I just wanted to add something to if any one is having an issue with there speedometer/tach console rattling.

If you follow the process layed out by the DIY, you should be good, BUT I found it very difficult to work with the O-Rings that were suggested. They did not glue/stick well and they would come off.

If any one has had that frustration, I offer an easier solution that fixed mine to PERFECT.

If you look at your 8's console from outside of the car looking through the windshield, you will notice the fact that there is a small crescent moon shaped section that your console is mounted on closest to the windshield. If you take off the console, you can actually just slip in there a pre-cut piece of mesh carpet or thin soft/squishy material, and you will be fine. I actually used a very thin squishy cut-out of an old table placemat. It worked great, I didnt have to glue it, you cant see it from any view, and there is no noise anymore.

Just wanted to contribute this if any one still reads this. Cheers!
