Do you wait for the RPMs to drop at idle?

I know its been posted before (and i experience it all the time) that when you first turn on the car it stays at a fairly high rpm, and then gradually decreases to just below 1,000. My question to you fellow 6 speed drivers, is do you guys wait for them to drop before taking off? And is it important or beneficial to wait for the rpms to drop, or is it just a waste of gas?

Really, you only need to wait a few seconds for oil pressure to be built up and you're good to go.

What is the startup cycle like? Can you stop the high cold idle by tapping the gas or starting the car in gear?

no, i just start and go. its way too impractical and too hot to be sitting there waiting for idle to drop, engine heat up.

No. I start engine, wait for 10 secs (as per manual) and then go.

I start it up in my garage, ease off the clutch and go flying out my garage because of the high idle, stop, climb out, close the garage door, hop back in and by that time its good to go

Let me get this straight, you have an RX-8, and you don't have a garage opener? :) I'm just razzing ya. :D

Yep - and I suppose you leave the engine running, key in the ignition while you close that garage door, right? That just offers itself to an occasional car thief to hop in while you hopped out, and drive away with your prized possession... :D
