Do you need the 4 seats?

~Never done a poll before lets see if this works out~

So, lately I have realized I do not really need the 4 doors 4 seats and really have been yearning for some top down roadster fun. Tough times! I love the 8 but now couldn't be a better time in my life to own a 2 seater.

I was curious what fellow owners thought of the 2 extra seats/cargo room...

If you don't need the extra convenience and practicality go get yourself an S2K or Solstice/Sky GXP/Redline. You're only young once :) Anyhow, I voted 2 even though I don't own an RX-8. I carry way too much crap and wine around with me to ever be able to get away with a car like the S2K.

ANIBALRX8 11-26-2006 12:30 AM

i wood buy a two seat rx8, but if they have a two seat and a four seat, i wood buy the four, hands down!

Raptor2k 11-26-2006 12:31 AM

Voted #2.

I really needed the 4 seats over this past week. It's great when you're out with more than one person on special occasions. But during the average work day, however...I don't. The seats are always empty, it makes me yearn for an Elise or something.

The S2k is great....a little faster, a little better handler, you get to take the top down, it gives you a real sports car feel. But it's not as comfortable, loud, not a silk smooth engine...characteristics that are, of course, not common in sports cars. The RX-8 gives me the best of both worlds, which is just what I need, being in college and such. But I'll need to supercharge this baby eventually :)

Edit: Oh yeah, can't post this without my 45th cry to Mazda about to topic: BRING US A 2-SEATER ROTARY!

NgoRX8 11-26-2006 12:37 AM

i sometimes use it, but rarely. all my stuff can fit in the trunk, and i don't usually have more than one passenger with me. this past wednesday i did have two passengers, but that was a rare occasion. come to think of it... i dont usually have passengers with me at all.

As we speak (err posted) I was arranging a trade for an 06 Laguna Blue 2k :D
May not work out but I'll go for the next. Luckily I got the 8 cheap enough where depreciation has taken little-none off the value. It'll just be hard to say bye to the rotary if the day comes...

mdw1000 11-26-2006 12:58 AM

Got a wife and two dogs to haul around occasionally :)

Tirminyl 11-26-2006 01:19 AM

I really don't carry alot of people with me but at times its nice. Other than that, they get plenty of use for work bag, backpacks, dog, and just carrying stuff. I hate having things in the front passenger seat. That's what the rears are for.

Paul_in_DC 11-26-2006 06:46 AM

I had to have a back seat for Das Kidlet. I'm very happy Mazda obliged with the 8. :)

Wilson 11-26-2006 07:15 AM

I could easily get away with pulling the rear seats out and making storeage space out of it. Maybe someone will mold a nice kit for that purpose.

RX8Sick 11-26-2006 07:31 AM

I never use the back seats...no kids and when am hauling stuff, I use my other car. Bring on the roadster RX8.

Towlie 11-26-2006 08:36 AM

4seater for my son

CyprusRX8 11-26-2006 09:12 AM

The four doors, four seats had nothing to do with me buying the car. Although the freestyle doors are a cool show off feature :)

Raptor75 11-26-2006 09:25 AM

Two kids and a wife, 4 seats made this car a possibility. I've owned 2 seaters and loved them but feel I am not missing anything with the RX. Handles just as well if not better. The EVO and STi are nice alternatives performance wise but to low rent and boy racerish. Looked seriously at the Legacy GT great car good performance but just to plain looking. RX was the call best sports car I have owned despite the mpg.

skopiec 11-26-2006 09:26 AM

Just installed my youngest son's car seat in the back this morning - fits great! Going for a drive in the afteroon with the 2 boys. How many sports cars can you do that with?

bobf 11-26-2006 10:53 AM

I seldom use the back seat. Its just there with the rear doors I don't need so that my insurance company gives me a decent rate.

rddragoness 11-26-2006 11:08 AM

Rarely do i use the rear seats for pasengers, but when the neccessity arises they are there, and if I can sit my 6'2 son in the back, and he be comfortable in a sports car, then all is well. I do use them always though to lay a jacket in or for personal items. Much easier than sticking my purse in the trunk when i have a passenger in the seat beside me.

VRZOOMZOOM 11-26-2006 01:20 PM

I rarely use the backseats but when the time comes when i have passengers or other things to throw in the car, its very nice to be able to accomodate that stuff or people. Actually at times, I usually carry 2 passengers and I think it would suck having a 2 seater at times because you're really limited in terms of cargo and passengers.

It just a plus that the RX-8 has those backseats and convenient when you need em. Actually suprises a lot of people that there is actual legroom in the back.

Hornet 11-26-2006 01:54 PM

I don't need the back seats but I got this car so that in a pinch I could squeeze people back there! Kid potential is a plus...I dated a girl that had a 9 year old daughter and her daughter had no problems riding back there...not to mention if I were to become a father then it wouldn't equate to me having to give up my car!

Brettus 11-26-2006 02:18 PM

could not do without them - my 3 daughters like being picked up in the 8 for sure :)
Would never have even looked at the 8 unless it had 4 seats . At the time I was looking at an older model M3 for similar money . The looks of the 8 won me over in the end - I got sports car looks & performance + 4 seats . Can't think of another car that has all that .

mysql101 11-26-2006 02:24 PM

I have an 8 year old kid that sometimes needs to come along. If I had a two seater, I'd never be able to go out with the whole family in the car. So it's sometimes good, though I usually don't use more than one seat in the car.

WhiteDealershipRice 11-26-2006 02:30 PM

I usually commmute to work by myself, but I have a wife and 2 kids, so if we're going to use my car we need the 4 seats we also have a 5 seat station wagon (Toyota Matrix) but unless we need to take a friend with us we are just as comfortable in the 8 as in the Matrix

dbb 11-26-2006 04:07 PM

I needed the rear seats for our two standard long haired daschunds. They love it, because they have the centre console barrier between them, and it avoids fights.

Oh, and for the occasional two legged freeloaders ...

Big_Mike_4488 11-26-2006 04:43 PM

I'm away at college so whenever I have to drive home or I'm moving back and forth I definately need the back seats. Hardly ever use them for people, (unless I am unlucky enough to be the designated driver at night), but I definately need them for extra cargo room.

KWS 11-26-2006 04:54 PM

I can put 2 large 17 year old sons in the back if needed, but usually it is just the 3 of us with one in back and one riding shotgun.
