Do you let your friends "test drive" your RX-8?
 

Just curious. When I first got my car I wanted to show it off to my friends, as mine was the nicest car of the bunch. So I let them each drive it, but it was during the break-in period, and I didn't have much experience with it at the time, so we didn't really push it. For obvious reasons the RX8 can feel weak when just doing stop-lights around town and such.

So I was wondering if you trust your friends to take your car out and drive it hard so they can see exactly how crisp it is, or if you would never let your friends drive your car?

in fact, when my roommate even LOOKS at my car, i nervously fumble the keys in my pocket. at first i used the old "ill let ya drive it when the new wears off." now its just simply "my car. you no drivey."

the one person i know who i trust to drive it, declined my offer. at first :)

i really only let 1 of my buddies drive it and that's only when we are at the bar and i decide to drink and he says he'll be DD. I tell my dad he can drive it, but he says he doesn't wanna take any chances (he blew the engine in my firebird one time and ever since then he won't drive any of my cars).

Tom got to every bar at 2am and let them test it for ya.

Only if they're hot. And of the opposite gender. And even that, only my lap shall suffice as a seat

Allowed: other RX8 drivers, as long as I am in the passenger seat.
Allowed: Very good friends, and my family.
Disallowed: Anyone that is or acts like a teenager.

Other than that, I dont see an issue.

Over the three years I had it I think I had about 16 people compete in autocrosses with it. The three rules were:

my dad had driven it once, and my muscle car friend took it out once. other than that no one is touching my baby but me.

Well when I first got the 8 I let our two sons drive it. Once. I have offered the oldest son the chance to take it to the store before and all he said was "No, I don't think so". Was I that intimidating with that shotgfun in my hand. And of course the wife drives it all the time. I can't help that. She can get to the shotgun too. JK.
Oh I let my brother drive it once and now he wants to trade cars.

Closest friends only ... and only the ones who appreciate cars and know how to respect them.

I have let exactly 1 person aside from myself and my husband drive my car. And I was such a nervous wreck that I've never done it again.

My brother has driven it . . . with me in it. No one else, except for the grease monkeys at the stealership.

First person who took the keys other than me started it, revved it and shut it down. Flooded. First and last time. Wasn't even supposed to touch the keys (car was simply parked at his place while I was on vacation). After that I made it clear to everyone that it was MY car and MY keys and *I* was driving. Period.

Then once a friend brought it back home for me since I had too many drinks to drive. And another time another close friend took the wheel to compare it to the G35 he had just test driven.

That's it. No one drives it without some good reason "just for fun" or "let me see what it's capable of!". If you want a ride, I'll give you a ride.

I've let 2 friends and a fiancee drive it....once each. the one friend kept asking every time we went somewhere for a few months afterwards :)

only one person has ever driven my car, and only because i was far too drunk to drive. other than that, no one else will EVER be driving my car :P

I voted yes but i think its really dependent on the situation and person personality themselves. When i first got it, i let my one friend drive it because well he drove stick too and trust he wouldn't beat on it. Personally, i'm very reluctant to let someone who doesnt' drive stick on a daily basis or owns a stick car.......drive my car. Like my one co worker, actually my boss wanted and implied he wanted to drive my car. I haven't let him drive my car because of a few things. 1) He said he wanted to bark my tires if he drove my car, meanin droppin the clutch 2) Even tho he older than me, i have this feeling that he gonna grind my gears or do something really wrong and jerk the car around. 3) He drives an automatic everyday, even tho he claims he used to drive a Vette, I dont know how long ago that was........dont want him driving it.

On the other hand, my other co worker, she drives a Golf 5 spd to work everyday, and implied she wanted to drive my car on a few occassions. I would probably have no hesistation handing her the keys cause well 1) she drives a stick everyday 2) she doesnt' seem like the type to screw something up on a stick 3) made no claims/indication she wanted to beat on the car to peel out.

So its like a yes and no situation for me. If my friends/ co worker don't drive stick on a frequent basis, let alone doesnt' own a manual car.......then forget it, i'm not letting them drive the 8 regardless of how they claim they can drive the car. If they mention how they want to burn out or peel out in my car, then thats also a red flag to me. Go test drive a 8 at the dealer at your own expense haha.
