Do you get depressed washing your RX8?
 

So, I was washing my RX8 last night, and I started to get a little bummed.

I've only had the car a few weeks, and I've already found a couple of chips in the paint and a pair of nicks in the wheels. :banghead: Oh, and one of the silver plastic valve stem caps seems to have mysteriously vanished--don't know how that one happened. :confused:


I suppose that the nicks are to be expected, considering the crappy state of Michigan's road (I wince every time I hear bits of road debris thrown up against my car), but it's still kind of a downer. I want my baby to look perfect! :)


Does this happen to anyone else?


P.S. After feeling depressed, I went out and drove my car, hit the 9,000 RPM redline a couple of times, and felt much better. :D:

hahaha yes i feel the same way. i always see new paint chips and everything every time i wash it.. but you do have the right thing to fix it.. DRIVE THE RX8!!

haha yeah it happens but its something everyone has to live with.

those things are going to happen. It drives me crazy whenever I see a shopping cart pushed up against someones car. If you take care of your 8, and it sounds like you do, don't let it get you down! Drive it, redline it and grin!

I got pissed off at the dealership more than I got depressed the first time I washed my 8.

I washed it when the car had less than 80 miles so I can give it the first coat of wax.

Found two paint chips in the most unlikely place (edge of fender where hood and fender meet), Driver and driver rear seat were dirty on sand leather, craps on the carpet back of driver, Autolock not programmed eventhough I specifically say to do so...etc. Leather later go cleaned by the dealer, they still forgot to vacuum the crap on the carpet off.:rant:

In the end, I gave the dealership a crappy survey responses, got the call the next day:spank:

Every time I wash, I look at the paint chips. I just get pissed at the dealer every time I see my car, love the car, dislike the dealer.

^^^yeah, I watched a tech at the dealer drive mine right onto a curb whilst parking. I was afraid to look at the front air dam but it was ok after all.

I know how everyone feels. Ive been driving my girlfriends car and letting her drive mine because she has a 2 mile commute and I have a 100 mile commute. I just taught her how to drive a stick 2 weeks ago :scared:

A little bit. Then I go and get the touch up paint and cover those chips and nicks up, let dry, and go driving. By the time i get home the chips are forgotten.

Who cares about scratches . . . . . . . Its just a car.
Now if you view it as an investment, those scratches lower the value, then you are bummed out about it.

I have spent my life around automobiles, and aside from a handfull of very rare ones, a car is just metal, glass, and rubber.

It is irritating, especially here in the Northeast, there's not much you can do. I get blasted every Spring from left over road sand (gravel!). The one small benefit to our insurance here in MA is a free annual windshield, if you complain about safe vision obscurance, so I may have mine replaced (OEM '05). I do touch-up paint the chips (terrible at it even using a paper match) but it's never the same as a pristine coat. Oh well, as others have said, just drive it hard and enjoy it.

The first couple scratches and nicks are the hardest on you. The longer you own the car, the more you'll get and the less you'll stress over them. For my first couple months I could count where and how many nicks there were on the car, but after 3 years there's too many to count i just stopped caring :(

sadly, the only way to keep your car "pristine" is to never drive it. but, then- what's the fun in that?

chips, scratches, dings all hurt. try to avoid them as much as possible. but, don't beat yourself over them either. it's just what happens when u drive the car- unless u decide to bubble wrap ur 8.

Yes! There are a few partial cracks on the rear and love bug stains from the previous owner, and I slightly curbed the front lip right after getting the car. Told myself originally that it wouldn't bother me, that was bs... ;)

Depresses me as well. Yesterday I found a small chip in the windshield.... how the hell does that happen!!!?? :banghead:

Unfortunately that's part of it. The only thing i hated was that the touch up paint went on the same color but dried lighter than the actual paint. you could tell where every ding was on my car

Just drive it and don't focus to much on the paint.....Dont get me wrong washing your vehicle is good but don't pay attention to the little things...

the thing that depresses me is that i have a black car and of course it's pollen season. and right after i get done drying cleanin it all nice and puttin all the time into getting it clean as hell i have a layer of yellow pollen on it. and yes of course those lil scratches on the front end sux too.

I did at first, noticing all the chips, door dings, etc. but now it doesn't really bother me. What's the point of owning a car like this if you are going to be worried all the time or babying it to death. It's a machine and it's sole purpose is to be driven and that I do.

yes. definitely yes. i clayed the whole thing the other day and being that close to all the imperfections is heartbreaking. and then of course when i take it out in the sun and its swirlville i want to die.

Yep, I too hate pollen season for that reason, but it will be over soon. C'est la vie.

Anyone have a white 8 with the grey touch up paint they give you for it?

Went and got plain Mazda white. Its not a match for the whitewater pearl but its much closer than the grey they say is the proper match.
